So I was thinking I would put it out there. I see alot of people joining the server lately and thought this would be a good time to reinstate the rule.
Why? well first off it was the way it was on osi.
it only takes a day or so to make a townie melee cahracter. Could really spice up the server pvp wise. Even if it is only towns its a start and would give new players a look at people fighting in town. I always liked watching the gate open up and a bnuch of chaos shield clad guys running in to take out the order guys or vise versa....
So why not I say? its not like there is any pvp going on besides blue noto pks by the sounds of it

a good group always had a mix of mages in it even in town. heals, poison casts, paras, deamons

while people are macroing their mages they might be pvping on their townies. And ya mages solo arent made useless in town fights when played properly:)
if you are warring or chaos / order magic damage counts. Sorry should have put that

I remember most of the time spells doing dmg even in town; I do remember the period of time when it was changed, but I think it was a small % of t2a for some reason. Anyone have any links to help my ignorance, thx

Currently only O/C can do spell damage in guarded areas. Warring non-O/C guilds cannot.

Can you change that? Seems kinda faulty that warring guilds cannot do spell damage.

Definitely make it so warring guilds do damage to one another.

The poll is asking whether we should remove the O/C exemption from town spell damage. In era, one damage was done by all spells to non-grey chars regardless of guild affiliation.

oh, well that's stupid there isn't enough O/C as it is for it to even matter..

I have been looking for some info to back myself up to how I always remembered spells working in town before I posted about spell damage. I have found a little something atleast. I always remembered 0 damage for spells in 98-99. It didn't matter if you were grey, blue, red, black or blue, warring, or o/c spells did 0 damage. Poison, para always worked whether casted by you or a summoned pet.
Also making it so you can't gain resist in town by taking 1 damage from spells. resist didn't gain in town at all unfortunetely. You always had to take damage for it to gain. ( no I don't have gm resist on any of my characters)
What types of attacks will work in town?
All types of attacks work in town except for spells. Damage from spells is reduced to 0. Note that poison attacks from summoned creatures like Blade Spirits will still work resulting in a Criminal flag for the caster and the possiblity of becoming a Murderer if an Innocent dies after being poisoned.

The best reference I have for Spells in Town (besides my failing memory) is the UO Playguide (which I don't have with me at the moment or I'd give a page number) That says spell damage to innocents in town is reduced to one hp.
Now I believe I remember training resist in town, but maybe my memory is clouded a little. Thanks much for doing the research you've done on this Damaja. It's amazing how much info there is about some things and how sparse other issues are.
I know you are correct on it applying to everyone, blue red, green, orange or grey didn't matter.

people used to have a guildmate cast on them from outside of town onto a character standing inside town and they would gain resist and take no damage.
and wind had a bug where guards didnt attack, so youd get all the npc mages to attack you and gain resist taking no damage in town, having 20 npocs casting on you from other side of the porchs
