Packhorses and their loot upon death

Post by Hicha »

MirkPirate in IRC brought up this interesting topic:

From Server Publish Feb 23 2000 10:22AM CST
http://wiki.uosecondage.com/index.php?t ... atch_Notes

"Pack horses now have their packs on them when they die."

Are we to assume that before 2000 patch, when you killed a pack horse, all its loot was either gone/inaccessible as well?

my thinking would be that it on on the corpse and not in a bag .. the change put everything into a "pack" inside corpse ??

three things I can think of
1. It was just a corpse of a horse
2. Everything on pack animal was not in a bag and spewed around
3. The image was a packhorse without its pack on

I am pretty positive that the killing of pack horses didn't delete their contents, however I do seem to remember it being a bag within a bag, but this was common for all mobs in early T2A.

#'s 1 and 3 here are the same item, there is no gfx for a packhorse without his pack, although i think this is the likely meaning of this EA Patch, although I'm still very interested in this one.

I specifically remember having to use a bladed item on the packhorse corpse in order to access the items it had on it's pack.

Ahh, that's interesting.
I'll look into this. If anyone else finds any info, please post.

Thanks!

Really? I dont.

Should be interesting to look into.

*edit - quick scan of the patch notes from 97 to the end of 99 and the only thing relevant to this is:

Pack horses and pack llamas can now be purchased.
They are exactly like any other pet in all respects: they need fed, you can name them, and they obey the same commands.
Doubleclicking them when not in combat mode opens their pack. This pack's capacity depends on the strength of the pack animal and the normal limitations of the pack capacity.
An overloaded animal will tire and slow down.

I would think that the "exactly like any other pet" line would mean you will have to find some solid proof on the carving them idea.

there are other mentions of packies in the patch notes but nothing in regards to their corpse.

You should be able to snoop a pack horse from anywhere on the screen.
Currently, you have to be right next to them.
I don't have documentation, sorry.

I thought they dropped everything onto the main corpse container, in the same way a players top/main backpack drops onto a player corpse container, so if the stuff is in a bag, it will drop in that bag, if not it drops into main corpse container. Maybe wrong thou.

I was pretty sure you had to be next to anything you were attempting to snoop... It would make sense as well.

I know, but this is how it worked, only for pack animals.
From the time pack animals were introduced to well after UO:R.

I'm 100% positive.

Eulogy is correct.

I remember on many occassions trying to double click a name inside of a house thinking it was a person and it ended up being a pack animal losing karma from the snoop.

However, the fix to this feature is with in our target date unfortunately.
