I am wondering what determines an unacceptable name here? I have seen many character names that I would not have seen on an OSI server however I have found that I can't use the name " A Stupid Newbie" here. I find it strange since it was an acceptable name on OSI servers.

I really would like to know the answer to this. If it is posted somewhere else then could someone please post a link. I just want to know what is acceptable and/or what isn't so that I won't have any problems in the future.

As long as the name isn't racist or something, it's fine. In other words, no racial slurs in your name. Pretty sure that cuss words aren't allowed either.

One of my toons is named Imgoingtorapeyou and I haven't seen any issue yet. Hope that provides a distinctive line.

I've seen Anal Leakage also. Pretty disgusting, but funny none the less. :P

If your entire goal is to be as much of a tool with a name as you can, it'll likely be changed. Use common sense, and you'll be fine.

Also, as far as naming constructs, I had to namechange for having a char in 98 named carpetmuncher

I think being named "Stupid Newbie" et al. Thats all fine, there's actually very little that would offend most of us playing here anyway, but occasionally I see ridiculous names like "KillaNi**er" and such, thats just going too far with it. Even the "FaceRape" guild has some moderately humorous (to some I guess) names that are in remotely good fun (just not taste), but when it comes down to quite literally derogatory naming conventions thats the point where the line was crossed imo.

What I am saying is that the game currently won't let me use the name "A Stupid Newbie". I get a message saying the name is not allowed. Compared to some names I have seen, that name is rather mild. I used it for my crafter on Napa Valley and I thought it was cute to put people in armor crafted by A Stupid Newbie.

No I am not. I have used versions of the name in other games but this is the first board I have ever used it on.

I'd guess the filter is stopping Stupid from being used by itself?

My guess as to the names that are blocked on creating a character is that the client has a list of disallowed words that was added to and removed from as time went on. This is probably a function that we can't circumvent in the client itself. As for changing names, I have never personally changed a name of a player in game, and from what I understand, few if any actions have been taken by any other staff members to change a character's name due to the nature of the name.
