Voting for your #1 Shard.
Ok, i have seen this on other shards. Not necessarily t2a era accurate shards but hey!
Basically, it could be a stone that when double clicked will open your web browser to one of the many voting sites, or even a command like [vote. If placed at locations where new characters start off (i.e brit inn) and banks, I believe more characters would vote and it would be a huge benefit to the shard in general. Not all players use the forums or IRC
Another idea that came across my mind was a counter that would be placed on the main page of the website. It would list the top 15 voters or so. The winner every month wouldn't receive fat lewts, gold, or anything like that. They would simply acquire bragging rights, and their name along with the other top two voters would be displayed on the website.
Example.
TOP VOTERS THIS MONTH
1. Axe
2. Jedi Mind Tricks
3. xTYRANTx
Who wouldn't want their name on the website as top voter? I can almost guarantee that a lot more players will begin voting.
Once we get our name to the top of the list, we sit back and watch the shard grow. Every single person that goes on these vote sites looking for a new shard will see ours on top, and they will read the statement about our shard and there will be no " EVO PETS, ALL GM SKILLS, NO SKILL CAP, NO STAT CAP, BLAH" They will see the most t2a era accurate free shard every made and will be lured in for sure.

Re: Voting for your #1 Shard.
Personaly I think [vote is the best idea, it doesent clutter up towns with trammy guild stone style voteing boxes and can be accessed by everyone everywere
The only problem is how do you determin top voters? would you have to type your name in when you vote? I vote from work and Home because I can

Well, by your forum account if possible. Anyone could time your name in, and i'm sure it could be abused or something. If it would identify you by your forum account that would work perfect.
Even if in game, there was some way to calculate the amount you [vote , and adds the tally up in game and the results could be posted on a bulletin board and on the website.

Votes could be tracked by the email your account(s) are registered to, and a user name could be linked to an email address <somehow>

Bad idea, as you stated in your first post, not everyone uses IRC or the forumsaXe wrote:Well, by your forum account if possible. Anyone could time your name in, and i'm sure it could be abused or something. If it would identify you by your forum account that would work perfect.

Not to be the jerkoff of this thread but who cares if your name shows up that you're the top voted.....everyone should vote sit back and reap the benefits of more players if you do it, that simple.Wise wrote:Personaly I think [vote is the best idea, it doesent clutter up towns with trammy guild stone style voteing boxes and can be accessed by everyone everywere

In reality yes, but obviously it is not the case, a small competition or "reward" in the forum of say a Name on the top 3 voters on the webpage or even if the top voter each month got a special title on their paper doll for 30 days "UOSA #1 Fan" or somthing along those lines it would just drive the other 60% of the population to THINK about voteing

Re: Voting for your #1 Shard.
Simple fact about people. They like to climb ladders. It doesn't matter what it is, people LOVE to see their name as #1, people love to brag. Even if you say "oh its just a stupid voting thing", the fact is, people will do it more if they are recognized for their efforts.

Can we get some staff input on this? I think it's a very high potential suggestion.

Derrick should be back from vacation anytime now.

I say we let Yoda, Faust, Blackfoot and Hemperor make the final decision on this

Re: Voting for your #1 Shard.
I'm definitely not a fan of the in game stones sitting around everywhere even though it has been proven that this works on shards... I do think there should be some sort of effort to implement something like this though. I think the IRC bot messaging a user isn't a bad idea at all. The in game command probably wouldn't be a bad idea either, but most people don't typically vote unless it smacks them right in the face for some apparent reason like a stone sitting on the ground, etc...
I probably would be voting everyday if it was possible here at work... However, my government agency's firewall blocks all gaming related sites including those. I rarely get the chance to get on my computer at home every single day due to my massive schedule, sadly.

Re: Voting for your #1 Shard.
I like the idea of a voting ladder, I'm not opposed to this at alll, but not sure how practical it would be, there's no way to "track-back" whether someone actually voted or not, you can only track the fact you sent them to the site.
I really really don't want vote stones in game. I wouldn't at all mind having this system on the forums though.

Re: Voting for your #1 Shard.
what about a vote stone in the event room.
what wouldnt hurt the emersion factor. I rarely vote only becuase i don't remember. an in game thing would be 100% needed for me to remember.
is there anyway to make a global warning / URL Gump appear if you want it to? set to off on default?
pretty much anything in game would get me to vote. but i'm sure new people wouldn't like any kind of non-game spam.
just ideas
