Poisoning explanation

Based on my understading, applying greater poison and deadly poison to blades gives 14 and 12 charges. I have experimented with this a fair amount and the most amount of charges I have gotten was 3. I am GM poisoning so that is not the reason. Also, I have experimented poisoning someone with the weapon and not attacking anymore until they cure, then do it again, and again...etc. It still leads to a maximum of 3 charges.

Can anyone help me to understand this a bit better, or is something wrong?

A posion charge is consumed every time the weapon hits, so with a gm poisoned weapon, yielding a 25% poison rate per hit, and 12 charges you're only going to actually inflict poison on average 3 times per application.

That seems horrible for the amount of time and money it costs to GM it. I am assuming this is era accurate then?

I've never spent the money on poisons because I always thought you could only poison once. This is great news for me :D

Yeah, its accurate and important that its the most expencive tradeskill on the server. The staff did a good job of making skill gain a bit faster but keeping the ratio.

Once you gm'ed the skill you can sell a GM DP weapon for 400 more gold then you bought it for. May take you awhyle to recoup, but think of the pvp potential. the mistake most poisoners make is putting the poisioning on a mule, and not a dexer.

Try to beat Tron without 50 cure pots =)

Can a player move about while actively using poisoning to poison their weapon in the field? How long does it take?

Yes, and only a few seconds.

I've just recently GM'd poisoning, and I would like to know if this 25% poison rate per hit applies just for GM poisoners, or if it works like this for people without GM poisoning on their character. If not, then what is the poison rate for someone without GM poisoning using a GM Dp'd weapon?

it is based on the skill of the poisoner when it is applied to the blade. your poisoning skill divided by 4 = chance to poison per hit. it doesnt actually check your poisoning skill when the hit occurs so if you poison a blade with your GM poisoner, and pass it along to another player, they will get the same result as you.

Back in the day..... you used Item ID to determine when your blade was finally wiped free of the toxic slime you so genrously gave to those you encountered.

Also, If i recall correctly, it also damaged your blade faster so you needed repairs more often.

Poison doing damage to blades was a UO:R invention. They also introduced oil cloths at the same time.
You can tell if your blade is poisoned using arms lore, but the number of "charges" is not revealed.
