Magery not going up?

I remember something about being cursed and not able to gain magery. Is that still true?

I have it set to up ion the skills and I have about 80 points in item ID that I have set to down. Other skills are moving up but magery is stuck for the past 4 sessions about an hour each.. and I am casting spells like Gate and flame strike..

Any thoughts ?

What is your level of magery? Perhaps you would have a better chance of gaining magery skill by casting energy bolt still. I know there's a pretty strange 'dead' zone around the 79-84 magery mark where it slows down quite a bit.
