Been here a week and loving it so far - thanks for advice

Post by jered »

I played UO back in 98 - 99 with my brother. I had a tamer and he played a mage.
I'd been wanting to get back in ever since but all the changes over the years were a little much.
I was looking for the classic game I loved. Found this and couldn't be much happier.
I've met some really cool people so far.

I don't have much time due to RL but my brother has quite a bit.
I'm Plague Monkey (bard) and he's Slow Missionary (mage).
Wondering what the best way to get better involved in the community is.
Obviously starting here but should I look to get in a guild or spend more time in IRC?
My brother managed to mine enough to get a boat so we're not too broke, house is next.

Any advice is appreciated, it's been a long time since I've set foot in a dungeon so this is a learning process.

Looking forward to the server.

I'm back here for the same reasons :D Watched a youtube of what OSI has become, and it's pretty vomit inducing.

I saw your brother around lost lands a bit the past days. I would definitely suggest getting on irc so you can get in touch if you have questions or what not. Lots of people willing to give you tips there. If you need a res or got a Q, feel free to message me there as well. Guild can also be a good option, depending what you're looking for. I know there are a few guilds open to accepting new players. Also keep an eye on the forums for events, like dungeon crawls. You'll meet loads of other players there :D viewforum.php?f=45 Otherwise just hang out in populated towns during busy times and you'll find some adventure partners :D

Welcome!

Welcome to UOSA. It's a great place to relive old memories of time gone by in UO. If you need anything, let me know.

Everyone is very cliquey here. Using Ventrilo actively yields the best understanding of it. Other than that, finding a big clique is a good way to influence the community. You should explain your goals within such a community, since no one really crosses the aisle.

PM sent :D Thanks for the offer.

Excited to really start more killing stuff here soon. I forgot how hardcore this game is attacked a wolf earlier found out it was a direwolf and promptly regretted it. So much better than carebear WoW etc.

It's not millers lich house that's considered "the" lich house. Its the one on other side but still directly beside it

Vega, I'm not in a clique.

Also, beware of griefers! Especially vhyx.

Compared to some I'm new-ish too but was able to build my accounts up much quicker than the old days due to tips and tricks the vets post here and in irc.

Things to note-
-Most players here where the best on there shards back in the day and have giant egos (makes for great trash talk so check that section) but you really are almost always dealing with elite pvpers unlike osi oldndayz.
-You will be pked via tankmage hally cycle combo a few times while gaining that tamer....bard too so keep yourself ready to either fight or jump out at all times.
-Like Vega said, find a group that fits what you play for. Vega and Dyne are money makers that can scrap if need be, Farnk and Menk are the pvp type (there are tons but they seem to be in the shit more times than not), Matron and Chumbucket will rob ya blind but write one hell of a story about it (trust me, lock the damn door), politions like GK and Pyrol are great to ask how to do things like not get scammed (again, trust me, some people are so bored they have nothing better to do than take your loot and not give you what you payed for...huh BK?), oh and the grief monsters- just know it's a game and some play just to make your day suck, no big deal if you don't let them get your goat.
-(NEW) seems to be a great guild to get help from...name says it all I guess.

If you have gaining questions feel free to pm me. I may be newish but in 4-5 months I have managed to make 3 unique charas 7x on all three of my accounts (9 total so far) as has my bro (our story is like yours, we played back in the day and found this awesome server 10-11 years after quiting) so I do have quick chara gain answers.
