Stupid client issue - uo.exe character profiles, et al.

So, I installed uo a few days ago to play, and I went through the usual motions. I logged on one character, setup macros, and my uo "desktop" and catagorized my skill list. Then I opened uo/desktop/uosa/accountname/ and copied the contents of that characters folder to every other character I have.
Worked fine, every desktop.mul is setup as it should be, everything is fine, except:
1.) Now I get this strange bug. If I change font color on one character, it will change on another. This was not the case before. (some character share the same name too). This also occurs with some characters client macro options, but it seems to be sort of random when it occurs.
2.) Additionally, I can't remember how to setup the "default" uo character options. I remember there was a way to copy config data (desktop, macros, skills.mul, ...) and put them in .nwb files or something, so that the client would use THIS data instead of the default whenever a new character was made, or a character that did not have a /desktop/server/account/ folder.
If someone could remind me, I would appreciate it. I can't seem to find this info
