Are you Savage?

Greetings UOSA!
Have you ever wondered what it is really like in the Lost Lands? Ever wondered what it is like to live without gold or without the luxury of ducking down to the local provisioners to accommodate your daily needs?
Probably not… but if you’re still reading at least you’re interested.
To satisfy these curiosities I have decided to bring the Savages back to the Lost Lands (or to introduce them to the Lost Lands as I’m pretty sure the Savages were post-T2A). For those who do not know, the Savages were a tribe of volatile humanoids who could be found in the Lost Lands, (and I think later on in other places too), they had pale white skin, rode on ostards, healed with bandages and donned a tribal mask, bone armour and held a spear.
So I have decided to start a new character and send him to the Lost Lands to become a Savage and I am looking for friends to join me. I have put together some Rules and a bit of a Guide as to what it means to be a Savage. Of course this is all preliminary and Savage Law will evolve as we come across different problems.
Rules
1. I’d rather if this could go unsaid but just to get it out of the way. Being a Savage does not give you the right to act uncivilised. As ironic as it sounds, as a Savage you are expected to treat all players with respect and to play in a mature way. The Savages will not tolerate its members acting unpleasantly to other players and giving us a bad name, it is also not in the spirit of the game. If any Savage is found acting inappropriately he/she will be banished from the Savages.
2. A Savage cannot leave the Lost Lands, and are not allowed into town. (I hope to have events where the Savages travel to the New World)
3. A Savage must have pale white skin, no hair and a Savage name. (I know it is impossible to get the same effect as the tribal paint, but you are required to be as close as possible. Have a look at Stratics to see what the Savages look like: http://uo.stratics.com/database/view.ph ... ers&id=303. There is more info on Savage names in ‘At Savage Creation’ later in the guide.)
4. A Savage must use either a bow, a spear, a kryss or a dagger as a weapon and a tear (wooden) kite shield. Short spears are NOT acceptable (Magery is not restricted but not recommended)
5. A Savage can only wear tribal/bear masks, bone arms, and bone leggings. All other armour/clothing is forbidden.
6. A Savage can only be helped by other Savage players, i.e. you cannot help your Savage by means of your alt characters, NPCs, or non-Savage friends. Therefore, a Savage cannot buy items! (This is the most essential part of being a Savage, everything must come from the Lost Lands. This is also the reason why being a Mage is not recommended as if means that you would have to collect regs yourself, but this is still do-able).
7. A Savage can only ride ostards. Riding horses or llamas is forbidden.
8. In terms of skills, a Savage must have healing (all Savages in OSI could heal with bandages), fencing or archery (both is recommended), and a crafting skill: blacksmithy to make spears and wooden kite shields, bowcraft for bows and arrows, poisoning, and tinkering to make tools.
9. If you remember, Savages were RED. Being red is not a requirement, but the Savage will hunt other players. (I had initially thought that the disadvantage of not being able to use trapped pouches in PvP meant we would need to make an exception in Savage law to allow other players to give them to us, however the more I think this the more I dont like it. Therefore I have decided that for now we will strictly maintain Savage Law and that Lesser poison potions can be used to break paralyze, and possible in the future that there will be a Savage who takes up the skill of carpentary to make containers, and someone who is up to the challenge of training some magery to caste magic trap)
10. Lastly, Savages don’t macro or play solely for skill gain. Savages hunt! Whether its hunting birds for feathers to make arrows, or hunting earth elemental for ore to make ingots, we do it for the sake of survival, not for the sake of raising our skills.
Skills
Crafting Skill:
The most important thing here is that I am trying to create a community. One Savage is not expected to have all the skills necessary to exist as a successful Savage. Crafting skills are to be shared amongst the Savages to allow each Savage to be adept MvP, PvP players. Therefore, before making your Savage it is recommended that you contact me first to see what crafts are lacking. Useful crafting skills are as follows:
Blacksmithy (spears and wooden kite shields)
Bowcraft and Fletching (bows)
Poisoning
Tinkering (tools)
Alchemy (Initially I thought that this skill would not be very useful because it is difficult to find regs, however i have found that many monsters drop regs (not quite enough to have a successful mage) and to be able to turn them into a potion is very useful)
I believe that other crafting skills would be less useful:
Tailoring (Savages are not allowed to wear leather armour or clothing)
Carpentry (No need for such luxury items. However, if the Savage community grows staffs may be included as a permitted weapon to allow greater variety, but at this stage I think its best to focus on only a few skills).
Inscription (Savages have no written language)
Resource Gathering:
Resource gathering skills are permitted but not encouraged. Savages don’t spend hours at the side of a mountain mining, or cutting trees for logs. Savages hunt! Ingots will be gathered by killing earth elementals, and smelting down unusable weapons and armour. Wood will be gathered from killing corpses, poison potions from killing scorpians… you get the idea.
Other Useful Skills:
Tactics – Very obvious. This skill is not required by Savage Law but you will not make much of a Savage without it. The damage increase you receive from this skill means that a Savage will struggle to hunt without it.
Anatomy – Again obvious. Damage increase and benefits to healing make this skill a must for Savages.
Magic Resist – We do plan to PvP, so having high resist would be a very helpful addition to your Savage.
Taming – Ostards run wild in the Lost Lands and are the preferred mount of the Savages. To be able to tame these creatures will be of great benefit to you and your fellow Savages. According to T2A Wiki your require 27.1 skill to tame an ostard, and 77.1 to tame a frenzied ostard.
Hiding – You can hide! A very useful skill.
Stealth – Perfect for a hunt, stealth allows you to move unnoticed giving you the element of surprise when hunting your prey. A recommended skill for a Savage. The disadvantage of this is that you cannot ride an ostard when stealthing.
Tracking – A recommended skill to have at a high level as it allows you to track animals, monsters, and players that are a distance away. This would be very useful for hunting, especially resource gathering and hunting other players.
Cooking – What!? Cooking is a useful skill! …Yes, I believe a low level of cooking is necessary for a Savage as it allows the Savage to always have access to food. Food is very helpful as it replaces stamina needed for a fast swing speed and also to run.
Camping – I would recommend a Savage begins with 1 point in Camping to gain a blessed bed roll allowing you to insta-log. Savages do not have access to houses or inns so having the ability to insta-log is necessary.

At Savage creation:
Remember when creating your Savage you must have pale skin and no hair! Also you must choose a Savage name. Check http://uo.stratics.com/database/view.ph ... ers&id=303 to see the names of the NPC Savages on OSI and choose a name similar to these. You can do a player search on My Secondage to make sure no other Savage has the same name. Also, make sure you contact me before choosing your crafting skill to find out how you can be of most use to the Savage community. You can contact me on icq: 484271439
I think that it is a little silly and quite difficult to come to the Lost Lands without some basic skills. Although this breaks rule 6, I've decided that it is permitted and recommended that you give your Savage money to train skills at NPCs before entering the Lost Lands. I don’t consider this *cheating* because as I stated earlier, being a Savage is about playing, not macroing or skill gaining and if you come to the Lost Lands with no skills then you would not have a playable character and end up doing just that. However, GMing all your skills prior becoming a Savage is not in the spirit of things and not permitted.
Joining the Savages:
Once you have created your Savage and trained his/her basic skills, make your way to the Lost Lands through one of the entrances. See http://web.archive.org/web/200002291124 ... atics.com/ for a guide to the Lost Lands and how to get there. Savages work best as a group so join up with other Savages and help each other out! Good Hunting!
