Summer 2013
Summer 2013
Okay, lets try to go against the grain of what normally happens to UO servers during the summer and do a little advertising ourselves on sites like reddit, youtube, facebook, twitter, google+ and by word of mouth. The more people the more fun!
Re: Summer 2013
Wait... less people = more IDOCs & less pks = more uninterrupted farming = more $$ = more pixel hoarding... right!?!
Are you sure you want to do that?
This will be my first summer here, unfortunately I've already seen the side effects of it with my own friends, but you're right, maybe we can do something to lessen the impact, but I suspect not. Sunshine and warmer weather tends to draw people away from their computers...

Re: Summer 2013
I guess on balance summer detracts from the population but you'd think a lot a younger players, students, would play more during the summer since they're not sitting in class all day.
Re: Summer 2013
younger players are playing battle field 4 and think UO is retarded. This is like pac man to them.
Re: Summer 2013
Youth is wasted on the young.
Re: Summer 2013
lol, never thought of it that way, but probably true...Jay wrote:younger players are playing battle field 4 and think UO is retarded. This is like pac man to them.
I wonder what "our" (UOSA UO players) average age is? Late 20's early 30's?
Re: Summer 2013
I cant believe we are still playing this... Get people addicted my fellow heroin addicts!
Re: Summer 2013
chumbucket has been working on reddit traffic but obviously needs help, with the nature of how reddit works.Weigraf wrote:Okay, lets try to go against the grain of what normally happens to UO servers during the summer and do a little advertising ourselves on sites like reddit, youtube, facebook, twitter, google+ and by word of mouth. I currently help with the Facebook page, and own the Community page on Google+ (unused currently) - If you are active on Google+ (I am) and have time (I don't) to help run it, I can make you a moderator of it.
There are a few PVPers who post videos to YouTube regularly, though many of them are using client enhancers, which to the untrained eye, make it look like they are using neon weapons and custom spells, something a true UO vet may see and then totally disregard/bypass the server.

I actively use Google+ and would enjoy helping you on my free time. It is a much better platform than Facebook. Although I recommend we keep both! I am a social media manager at a mortgage company. We can make this work people!
Re: Summer 2013
The reason this server dies out a bit in the summer and not get more populated like back in OSI days is because MOST of the people who play this shard are older. We already have had our "best UO days" behind us. So we know we arent missing anything if we decide to enjoy family, friends, kids, significant others more outside doing active things instead of trying to find someone to pk or waiting for an idoc to fall.
Now, for you vets, think about back in the late 90s when you played, remember the first summer you played UO? I guarantee you didnt move from your chair. I started playing in late 1997, so 1998 was my first summer, and I know my friends all got so angry at me because I literally locked myself in my house all summer to play UO. But, the funny part is, I dont regret it at all. I was 13-14 years old and had a blast that summer. Then right after my 14th birthday, I touched a booby, and I stopped playing very shortly there after
Point is, this shard is full of older more mature heads, who have already had their fill, they know that its moments with family and friends that are more important then pixels.
Now, Crackshit, and Homega? I bet they will be on all day every day during the summer. And hey, thats not a dis, I wish I was a virgin to UO again, it made the game so much fun.

Menkaure - Great post and I suspect you are right about the "majority" of us.
I was 17/18 when I first started playing 97/98 and when I wasn't at school or work, I was playing UO and pissing off my GF... I went to England for one summer ('99 I think) and even tried to fulfill my addiction from 5000 miles away - didn't work too well because of a shitty connection...
Now that I'm back, I'm re-addicted, but with a Career, Wife and Kids my playing time has changed from whenever I can, for as long as I can to evenings after the Wife and Kids are asleep.

Nice. I'm a developer / Internet marketer / SEO / etc ("Inbound Marketing" as the industry leaders seem to be calling it now), give me an add, and I'll get you setup on the Community page. https://plus.google.com/109326091149247321758/postsWeigraf wrote:I actively use Google+ and would enjoy helping you on my free time. I was once asked if I was playing Runescape by a younger cousin when he saw me playing UO. I was like ?!Jay wrote:younger players are playing battle field 4 and think UO is retarded. This is like pac man to them.

Your gaming time sounds, literally, IDENTICAL to mine. I play when wife/kid is sleeping. Which, because my wife is 8 months pregnant again, is not much, unfortunately
