I decided to join this shard 'cause of all the threads I have been seeing of people joining recently.
Quick question. Whats skill gain like here? Will it take me weeks to finish a 7x char?

If you randomly start with a few hundred k to start with, you'll be 7xGM in 4-6 days. If you are actually new, it will take you a while.

Make a character with 50 Provoking/Magery. Macro music overnight, macro Provoking the next night. By this time you should have gm music and 80+ provoke, just go into T2A and provoke Ophidians. I started about 2 weeks ago and have no friends/guildies. I've made about 700,000 gold doing it.
