silly suggestion that might help promote shard population
Hi everyone, I have been to this shard for one month and is having fun so far.
I really appreciate the passions of the staffs here, without you guys the real Ultima Online can no longer exist on this planet. Thank you for saving a place for me to play.
Before this I were playing at a equally or more populated free shard (I prefer not to reveal) for 4 years, and I hope that experience can provide some constructive insights.
Being a player from Hong Kong, I notice one difference here. The shard I played before were populated with Asian players, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea. Effectively, that make the shard constantly populated around the clock, which is a very good thing for a shard. And that remind me of Sonoma and Napa Vally. You know, the Japanese and Korean love this game.
But I see very few, if any Asian player here. I suspect this may be contributed to the fact that UOSA do not support Multi-language input. I tried to type Chinese and it all turn into questions marks in game. I am not sure whether this is client setting or server setting. But either way, I think adding Multi-language input to the downloaded clients or the game server is relatively easy (I hope?) and can be very rewarding, if, this make the shard more welcoming for Asian players.

I believe unicode was actually patched out so that we would have the era-accurate ascii text. Which also looks vastly better.

Reveal your previous shard to me via pm?

Personally I have no problem with English-only-input, I always prefer to have English version of interfaces when the option is available.
But for those Asian/Russian players who are not fluent in English, not being about to talk in their languages can be a major turn off, and that can be why they are not bringing their friends.
other than the regions I mentioned in previous post, there are potential Chinese, Taiwanese and Russian player bases too.
But I can imagine every IDOC being dominated by the Chinese/Taiwanese if they come. Just like real life, the real estate price double whenever Chinese inhabit an area.
Anyway, I am not asking for anything to be done. I am very happy with what the staffs did to preserve this gaming environment. Either they take this suggestion or they think it is not cost-benefit to implement (not everyone like to play with Asians), I am happy with the shard.

I would love to see a large influx of foreigners.

So that's why Canadian real estate is growing steadily for the past 20 years....KzHen wrote: the real estate price double whenever Chinese inhabit an area.
Joking aside, Kzhen brings up a very good point. We could all benefit from an influx of new players from around the globe. Perhaps more volunteering effort is needed to help spread the word about UOSA in part of the world where we can attract more players.

I'm all for new player, but perhaps we should limit to 1 house per account if we do this.
The last thing I want is to be forever a prisonner of my small house and be forced to caugh-up 1+million for a patio house (imagine a tower or bigger, urrgh!).
There's already a problem with housing on this shard in my book, we should be carefull not to worsen the problem.
Cheers !

Houses are definitely over-inflated in cost. I think a correction will happen soon.

Sounds like a good idea.
I'd take ugly text for multi-language support any day.
Derrick, what do you think??

Re: silly suggestion that might help promote shard populatio
I highly doubt a correction is coming, unless they decide to reverse the sensitivity housing placement patch. Housing prices have increased because vets have left. Their castles, keeps, and towers drop and can't be replaced. Get your bank rolls up! stop living on shard handouts and go farm or battle idocs.

There is a population of 40 Japanese players on this server as well. Four of them live in the castle in front of mine.
