What's up with all the Illegally placed housing?

So it has been a good 3+ years since I've last played here but there seems to have been an abundant a mount of illegally placed housing since I've last played. I mean the housing would have never been legit as in it is on ground that is no where near level ie. many of the ocollo housing, some on temple Isle, the Brit mine house directly outside the entrance...etc.
Was there a patch that went through (that's no longer around) that allowed this? Or was there a bug that allowed these to be placed?

I am sorta back after not quitting in 08 heh but I was curious why so many houses are placed in odd spots.

Here's a link to a patch Sept 2011

I believe you are seeing houses that were placed prior to this patch.

This patch says that it currently is "less" restrictive for even ground now. The only house I think prior to this patch that I mentioned that would be covered under this would be the Brit mining house, which didn't have to meet the stair check.
This doesn't explain why or how so many Ocollo houses are on such uneven land, nor many others like temple isle housing.

I'm not sure about houses on Ocollo, but I do know that in Trinsic, south of the moongate along the ridges, that there were houses there prior to the patch, then idoc after, and because the land was not a complete 7x7 square, a new house
wont go down. Similar I believe to the smithy we were bidding on.....tower was placed before patch, then after idoc,
only the patio will go down.

Yeah, those trinny houses were a step issue. Mostly curious as to what's going on with the uneven land placement.

House placement rules were made less restrictive, aka "more illegally placed houses" because it's era accurate.

It is less restrictive regarding uneven ground, but more restrictive regarding objects adjacent to the house, and mostly to the steps of the house.

So there is now housing literally sitting ontop of objects that you can not walk through. Additionally being placed on straight up hills and slopes is Era accurate? I thought that was a pre-t2a thing

Where, exactly, are these houses located at?

There was a short period last year where a patch that I think was aimed at LOS had some effect on house placement because i know someone who placed a tower with the wing over a castle and bridged them within the last 6 months or so. Another patch was released shortly after and he was no longer able to do the same on the other side of his castle.
Point is, there was a period where the housing rules were effected but that was corrected shortly after it happened.

This has been the case several times in the past. At one time, the wings of towers were not accounted for when it came to placement, so you could place over castles and other types of houses and impassable objects. This has since been corrected. Additionally, when we put in the less stringent requirements for flat land, it was implemented with too large of a z-axis allowance, which caused several houses to be placed in locations that you couldn't actually get on the steps from. Finally, at one point it was possible to place a house with the steps directly next to an impassable object. This has since been changed to ensure that there is 1 tile clearance around the house, including the front steps of the house. Obviously, over the years, this had led to our own set of "grandfathered" housing, placed under an older ruleset.

More housing patches please! (In the hopes i can place a tower next to my castle one day....)
On a serious note, I believe every server including original OSI servers had gradfathered houses that stayed on for years.
