Question about recording software

does anyone have a good recommendation for an on-screen recording software that also records sound?

i tried a few of the top google searches, and those programs increase my ping by 500%.

i dont like razors packet video for many reasons, and would like to explore other options.

one more inquiry i have that i forgot to post.

would purchasing an external hard drive help the ping issue? for example, if i were to start a recording but have the video record through the external hard drive, would that help at all? thanks

I own FRAPS and it has worked well on all other games I have played, but unfortunately I have not tried it with UO. Maybe I'll see how it works this evening and get back to you. I'm sure someone else has probably tested it though.

Also a quick search found these (no personal experience):
Bandicam
WeGame
Dxtory

Have you tried any of these?

This is just speculation, but I'm wondering if you are using the "free" versions of stuff, if you are being limited in FPS or quality in any way.

I know with FRAPS the free version has a watermark and I believe you can only record for 30 seconds or something.

during the intial testing, i am using the free version or trial version of the software provided until i find one that's acceptable. i just assumed it's better to not blow 30 - 40 bucks on a recording software that isn't effective.

the trial software im using now, that creates a ton of ping, can record 60 fps, but i found that 30fps is sufficient for this game.

Post what you decide on and why.

I've always wanted to record but every trial I tried it lagged me to hell. TBH I blame the fact that I have a shitty old lap top but who knows.

i will give feed back for sure. i have the exact problem you have though with the programs i have tried. my ping will jump by 50 points every 20 seconds of recording.

Are you guys on wireless connections? Seems lag would be more FPS issue than Ping?

Most everything you need to know ;). I really like BB Flashback... I've used several trials (though it adds a little thing in the corner) b/c of how easy timeline editing is and adding other sound channels, etc.

The trial professional version allows all the timeline editing, the express (free version) does not, which is why I go into editing the FLV using other software. It is, however, very difficult, so the professional trial version is certainly more recommended imo.

I've used FRAPS to record UO, GW2 and D3, never had it do anything to my ping. It shouldn't do anything to your ping since it doesn't upload/download anything while you use it.
