Are some items more difficult than others?
Is it more difficult to repair platemail than chainmail?
My 50 skill blacksmith keeps failing to repair platemail.
What blacksmith skill is needed to repair platemail?

I am pretty sure you have to be able to make the item you are repairing

Not quite succinct.
With 50 skill, I repaired a standard -1 dex penalty suit with no failures. (Close Helmet requires 58.6 in that wiki link)
At present, I have a platemail arms that I cannot repair. It was only slightly damaged as I used it.
I suspect the item could be heavily used when I bought it?
Can Item identification tell how much hp an item still has?
