Hi new entry here, PvP question

Hi All,

I'm glad I found this community.

I used to play UO on an Italian server back in '98-00 and I am very excited to start again.

I used to be a PK in those time, and never enjoyed PvM , only PvP.

So here is my question, is PvP more or less balanced or there are those 2-3 templates that are OP?

thank you and look forward to start!

T.

Welcome to the shard Tata!!

There are several different builds here that are useful, but the majority of people use a tank mage for PVP. It would involve the following skills:

Swords
Tactics
Magery
Resist
Eval Int
Meditation
Wrestling

Some say that certain builds are OP'ed, but it depends on the skill of the user more than anything.

Good luck sir, cant wait to kill you on the field!

Thank you for the answer.

In the old times i used to have:

Magery
Ev Int
Res spell
Wrestling
Meditation
Hiding
Tracking

Would this still be competitive or not vs a tank mage?

Only in a group. It is impossible to kill even an average player 1v1 with magery alone on UOSA.

False...I kill warriors all the time this way =P

yes I suppose its true that generally a warrior is defeated by a dump, but only if they
1) are not equipped (no trapped pouches)
2) don't run
And
3) roll the dice poorly and miss a lot

I suppose an average player may do those 3 things sometimes when playing as a warrior, so I stand corrected. Certainly a well played warrior would never die to a pure mage.

And an average player with magery will easily heal through whatever you.

I'm not against pure mages in groups though. The bazooka brothers have many of them and find them quite useful :)

Well ya when you fire 8 ebolts at someone simultaneously they generally tend to die :-P

mmm that doesn't sound right. So i need to be a mage that swings a sword/katana to be competitive...?

Is this some sort of work in progress or that is how you guys like mages on this server?

Are macers, archers and fencer competitive in pvp?

Sorry for all the questions but before starting investing time in a character I want to make sure this is a balanced pvp shard.

thank you!!!

T.

If you played from 98-00 then a weapon skill was a must. Maybe you are remembering wrong?

Well our shard was owned by 3 developers that worked really hard to make the game very balanced.

All the classes where competitive and you could be a pure mage and still rule if you knew how to play.

Same mages used to have hide and tracking to Pk, some others had animal lore and taming and used to go around with creatures to protect them, others had fencing, other had Alchemy and inscription and that made them be stronger in dealing magical damage because those skill gave them some bonuses.

Basically you could choose your style of play without having to follow a specific template to be competitive.

I dont believe there were any free shards in 1998...do you mean 2008-2010?

It's all about how you play them. I think things are pretty well balanced imo.

But no, there are no "templates" like the alchy-mage (higher explosion damage) or scribe mage (better reflects)--the goal of this shard is T2A era accuracy (emulating a particular time in UO's history). I have a 2x GM med warrior who is virtually unstoppable. I have a high dex tank mage and a conventional tank mage as well. There are people who make thief mages and what-not. I think there's plenty of combinations that are good in their own way.

Tracking and hiding... well, like I said--it could be fine in a group (I think it's not uncommon to have a character with tracking in a pk group), but you aren't going to fare well 1v1 with only magery.

Absolutely positive. And it was a great shard where the dev team improved the game a lot.

I understand. Last question, from what I understand by reading the forums, this shard does not try to improve things but just replicate hot it was supposed to be back in 1999 right? This is the philosophy that I got from reading the threads. So things like people outrunning arrows or similar will never be fixed because otherwise would be different from how the game was 15 years ago?
