New Player - Question about gold

I haven't played UO in 10 years or so. An obvious question comes to mind for starting brand new on something like this is
can you buy "gold" from other players for cash paypal type things? A: is this legal? B: is it done? C: What's the going rate, etc?
Talk all you want about grinding it out, but starting at 0 is pretty boring heh

That being said I DO see houses for sale
for like "deed + 2 small" and i have no idea what that means..is that just a player selling a tower for 'another' tower deed + 2 smaller deeds?
Is that because gold currency is so 'low' or...tyring to understand what's driving this server's economy.

First off, welcome to UOSA & I hope you enjoy your stay!
Purchasing gold/items for cash is a bannable offense, I would not advise you participate in such an activity.
B & C I will not touch.
New bank checks cannot be created at this time. With this being the case, house deeds are often used as a form of check since they are newbified (not blessed, newbified). A bid on a tower for Deed + 2 smalls would = 1 tower deed + 2 small house deeds.

Just make sure that all deeds and newbie items are in your base backpack. Do not stick them into bags or pouches as they can then become stolen.

You should come check out Paws and the fool's gold.
It isn't for sale for real world money, but I think you might find it will get you places.
(just don't tell Lord British where you've acquired the gold from if you get caught with it).

I started mid November and decided to employ the tailor method to raise gold while building a mage (never did this when I played OSI). I started my 1st char, a mage, with 50 tailoring and 50 resist and dedicated 2 days to sheering sheep, spinning yarn and making bolts of fabric then making tons of fancy shirts and selling to NPC tailor. It's boring as heck but for a new player it is virtually risk free loot and provided enough gp to buy regs for me to GM magery then you're in a position to pvm with a decent build to get better gp/loot.

FYI for new players. If you want a mage, start with 50 magery, not 50 resist. If you buy resist up to 20-25 or whatever, you can get to 55 resist in about 30 minutes using fire field and a healer.
