el suggestion MAGNIFICO - IDOCS
if i know anything about housing (which i don't), houses have a shelf life of 30 days.
this valid point being made, i think that there should be 2 things fixed.
1. in danger of collapsing - this label should be 24 hours of it falling, regardless of how much a house differs from uo. why? so the campers don't have to stand outside for days waiting. it makes sense that it would be idoc in it's final 24 hours, it could even have the other delayed titles up until that point.
C) e-mail notification - if it's that big of a deal to retain players, notify the players via e-mail or PM when their house goes idoc so they can make proper accommodations before it falls.
i love you

Re: el suggestion MAGNIFICO - IDOCS
We've been considering going to the era accurate house decay time. The 30 day system was acceptable partially because of the Huge Tracts of Land available on UOSA.
Re: el suggestion MAGNIFICO - IDOCS
Roughly a little under 2 weeks. If I remember correctly it's one of 12-13 days. I think having an email sent for an IDOC status house is a very good idea.
Re: el suggestion MAGNIFICO - IDOCS
why is it a good idea? If you need an email to remind you to log in and refresh then you clearly arnt playing the game to a point that you deserve housing. (especially with 30 days as is)Faust wrote:Roughly a little under 2 weeks. If I remember correctly it's one of 12-13 days. I think having an email sent for an IDOC status house is a very good idea.
if housing was 10-13 days then i could see it being much more of a problem because most of us have RL issues that could prevent gaming for 2 weeks or so...
Im not saying it shouldnt be era accurate (12-13) or that it shouldnt be 30... Im just saying housing in UO always has been a priviledge.
I do understand not wanting to lose player base to IDOCs but the question is how is someone who needs a 30 day reminder to log in and refresh contributing to the player base?
Re: el suggestion MAGNIFICO - IDOCS
Not everyone plays this game 24-7. Some may play other games or do other things. If an IDOC falls in the first place I don't think it's going to matter if an email goes out or not. I also was mainly referring to it being a good idea if the real decay system was put in place. I don't really think an email needs to be sent out on a 30 day decay system.
Your arguement for contribution is no different than the opposite side of the arguement. Players that take a break from UO may come back and play if their house is still there. However, if it isn't there than there is probably a 99% chance they would not play. Both sides have a valid arguement for this reasoning when it comes to player count.

If people are attached to the server and know they are going to take a break, they will take the needed precautions to prevent such a disaster to happen in the first place. Having a friend refresh, or simply banking items and deeding the house.
IMO, mixing up the real estate is a good thing. There are so many wasted spots, it seems like people are sitting on these spots, hoping that the economy gets overinflated so they can sell a house for a nice profit. I know I have done this in the past, but it just isn't the same as it was back when there were thousands of players on one broken shard.

Re: el suggestion MAGNIFICO - IDOCS
Era accurate IDOC is 10 days.
I would like to see this put into place, because it would make those players play more or log in more at least to refresh their houses that are just using shit as place holders. Land is filling up fast and so many prime spots were taken up when this shard first began and they are still taken up by inactive players ...
UO has always rewarded active players over the casual player over the once in a blue moon player ... the current idoc system [inaccurate] is rewarding the casual player ... lets change that to how it really was and is suppose to be.

where was all this support when I posted the poll about dropping the timer on houses? mostly all i heard was ppl crying saying i was just trying to scavenge other peoples stuff and who cares if it's accurate i dont want to have to worry about it cause logging in 3 times in a month is hard. even with the 30 day limit I lost a 3 room house with a grandfathered secure container after moving into my tower and i STILL want an accurate system put into place.

All of the people with 15 houses that log in once every 30 days aren't due to log in for another 18 days. So if we are quick, we can get it changed and get their loot before they notice. w00t :-procksinhead wrote:where was all this support when I posted the poll about dropping the timer on houses? mostly all i heard was ppl crying saying i was just trying to scavenge other peoples stuff and who cares if it's accurate i dont want to have to worry about it cause logging in 3 times in a month is hard. even with the 30 day limit I lost a 3 room house with a grandfathered secure container after moving into my tower and i STILL want an accurate system put into place.
In all seriousness...
I do think the timer should be reduced. While I like the luxury of the longer timer, if there are multiple houses per account the longer timer isn't needed. People are right, great spots were taken and now many such houses just get sat on being refreshed once every month.
The original poster was dead on. If the time is not changed, the IDOC time should at least be changed to match Era accurate.
Lastly, there is perhaps a compromise for the house reminder. One reminder is emailed to you per month or two of play. Thus, if you have one slip up and/or busy week you'll get an email saying "hey, T2A is still here, better check on your house!". But if you continually don't log in over and over you'll get no new reminders and you're house will drop. Each month or two the 'reminder' flag can be reset to allow a previously reminded person to be reminded again.
Re: el suggestion MAGNIFICO - IDOCS
Not era accurate by any means but a solution would be allowing 1 house per user (not account...dont even know if thats possible) to have say a 30 or even longer idoc time... then put everything else on the accurate 10 day timer.
If you have a "home base" on a 30 day + timer then you can keep your most valuables there. If you are hoarding spacing and using the plots for nothing more than that than you should be committed to logging in atleast once every 10 days to keep them.
This would help with vets who take some time off not coming back to losing everything and quitting... and also helps make sure spots arnt hoarded or if they are it is atleast on a 10 day times.
Just an idea.. I guess there would be a feature to declare your primary residence!

I think the Timing is perfect.. and shouldnt change. 24 hours after it hits idoc is way to soon. and an email that tells u that ur house is gunna fall?? pfft.. thats not uo..

According to some 1998 patch notes (I don't have the specific patch note date, but it's on the wiki) the house decay rate was approximately 11 days.

Re: el suggestion MAGNIFICO - IDOCS
It was between 10 and 11 days for a reason. There was no exact time that it would fall. It always had a window. It would drop between 8 and I think 12 hours after hitting IDOC, during this time period. That way people couldn't get an exact fall time, only an exact fall window.Kaivan wrote:According to some 1998 patch notes (I don't have the specific patch note date, but it's on the wiki) the house decay rate was approximately 11 days.
