Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
After spending 30 days on fishing (Two Characters). There are a few things I have noticed.
Pulling up a sea serpant unhides you.
gming fishing takes about 3-4 days.
Normal Sea Serpants pull up a level 1 treasure map once out of every 2-3 serps.
Deep Sea Serpants pull up a MIB once every 1.5 Serps.
At GM fishing you pull up a Serpant about 33% of the time (Depending where you are)
At GM fishing you pull up a Deep Sea Serpant about 5% of the time (Depending where you are)
At GM Fishing, while fishing non stop and moving. You pull up 3-4 Normal Serps and 1 Deep Sea Serp per hour on average.
MIB Loot consists of 1-3k of gold.
MIB Loot consists of about 50-100 regs on average per chest.
MIB Loot consists of about 4-5 Magic weapons on average per chest.
MIB Loot consists of about 10-20 mixed wands, magic armor, jewelry and sorted junk on average per chest.
If all items sold to vendors, including hard gold looted from chests, you get a return of 4-6k on average.
You have about 90% chance of getting Ruin Weapons in MIB Chests.
You have about 60% chance of getting Might Weapons in MIB Chests.
You have about 20% chance of getting Force Weapons in MIB Chests.
You have about 5% chance of getting Power Weapons in MIB Chests.
You have about 1% chance of getting Vanq Weapons in MIB Chests.
Including time spent on gathering resources, buying resources, traveling to MIB locations, and selling items, you will earn yourself about 7-10k per hour on fishing.
This data comes from 30 days of fishing with a single fisherman.
100 Fishing
100 Hiding
100 Item ID
100 Magery
I bring this all up, because when I first started playing OSI UO in early 98 - 2001. Fishing was my method of money as it's something i've enjoyed for quite some time now. I could make 20-50k per hour on OSI and it was alot easier than it is here. One thing I don't remember, is if you were capable of staying hidden or not when you pulled up a serp.
With all the time it takes to do this here, I can make 20k an hour easily killing liches, fire elementals, efreets, daemons, or pretty much anything that spawns quickly with 300-600 gp loot. I don't even generally have to do anything other than buy a few bandaids here and there.
This pretty much makes fishing useless.. and while I still enjoy it every now and then, it kind of sucks to have a skill that takes so much attention and time, only to have much easier methods for making money in the game.
Hope this either gets a response and answers some questions, or sparks a possible fix to the problem.

Re: Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
you have to consider that there is very little risk when fishing as far as getting PK'd
yeah you can farm mobs on land and make more $$ but there is also risk of getting PK'd

Np, I'll start a pirate guild...and we'll go hunting fishermen on the high seas.

Re: Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
You can get pked doing anything, including fishing. While the risk may be higher for killing mobs the return is still higher than fishing by 4x based on time.
Part of the reason why fishing right now is at such a low risk, is because nobody is doing it. In 98 on OSI, there used to be large pirate guilds who would go out pking fishers and looting their boats all day just as often as pks do on land.
All i'm saying is that fishing at the moment is incredibly boring and a waste of time.
There are things that are much more rewarding, like T-Map hunting which have huge returns and require about the same amount of time/effort as mib's do, provided a little provocation and lockpicking. Problem is, some of us would like the skill to be true to the era as it is our chosen profession.

I don't think Risk revolves around the fact that you be pked, or that pks having sea legs or not should reflect upon the benefits of fishing.Moriarti wrote:you have to consider that there is very little risk when fishing as far as getting PK'd

Re: Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
If you think about the proportions, there are plenty of people fishing. Sure, on OSI we may have had typically 30-50 people 'out fishing', but we also had 100s roaming the dungeons on a good night. Fishing is not useless, you can get items from fishing that don't exist anywhere else.

Re: Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
Agreed. Fishing loot is horrible. You can make more money hunting at brit gy. go there.
Re: Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
please increase the loots on mibs
Re: Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
Based on this analysis, what is a fair price for player vendors selling MiB's? What about the wooden/metal chests and other items pulled up?
There is a MiB loot vendor on the Brit Beach. Prices are resonable.....

If people aren't smart and get PKed on their boat, they could lose the boat.
Still seems like they could use a lil bump in gold.

Re: Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
Fishing wasnt profitable during this era. Blacksmithing wa the big money maker. Fishing became the next big money maker after blacksmithing, but it was in a bit later of an era. Also, mibs were just fished up during this era, they werent on sea serps and you didnt pull up serps. So the profit in it was in the fact that you could unattend macro for them. In my opinion it should be more era accurate, you should be able to get them without killing serps for them, however, it sho uld be illegal to unattend for them, just like with an y other resource gathering.
Re: Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
Results will vary I'm sure this is my experience fishing 80-gm
28 hours of fishing
127 serpents 15 of those deep sea serpents or 4.5 serpents per hour
13 lvl 1 maps, 2 lvl 2 maps or aprox 1 map every 8.5 serpents
a tad over 6200 fish caught
d-click fishingpole
wait for target
target loc
pause 8 sec
average cast per hour 400-450? counting stops to kill serpents..aprox 12000 cast 80-gm
Having just GMed fishing I cant say anything about MIBs but fishing is a bastard to GM

Re: Fishing - Difficulty and MIB Loot
There was quite a big thread in the past of the MiB's and the Sea serps.
The change to putting maps and MiB's on serp corpses did change within era.

Leave this as it is please.
Divinity's economy and playerbase went to absolute shit when people/EVERYONE started farming weapons/gold on the seas instead of on land, and you could never find anyone anywhere.

Leave fishing the way it is...
Just the fact that you said you were running 2 fishers at once is enough...you can pretty much GM fishing afk and also run it afk, and multi client... leave it the way it is.
