How much silver is still on the shard?

Post by Kabal »

People seem to think, oh I can just hue some sandals w/e color because I can buy silver, but I'm willing to bet there's probably only enough silver left on the shard for one or two more pairs of sandals to be hued, spread out across the shard.

Silver is NEA, all existing silver needs to be removed.

There are thousands of silver pieces still out on the shard. That does not include the hundreds of trophies yet to be cashed in. I have over 100s worth of trophies I'll never sell either. :)

Silver is a custom item made by the staff no differently than the thousands of other custom items made by OSI staff on the various production shards.

These items were unique to each shard no differently than silver is unique to this shard. UO Second Age is not replicating any given T2A shard but only the mechanics of the era. Special items are not an era accurate issue.

Then why was it removed?

Faust, did any OSI shard ever implement a one-off custom currency as a special item?
Silver came on with Factions (I think) and is hardly the same as some custom hued shields or shirts as part of an event or events.

Silver here is a currency alloted to those who played auto-events and occasionally open world events, that allows them to buy things/hue things that are also NEA.

Sure, wiping it would be stupid at this point, but I don't justifying it in such a way is appropriate.

Not hating, just chatting. :)

This question and responses got me thinking....

What if the trophy turn in system for silver was removed? Then event "rewards" wouldn't be another form of currency but a "rare". Of course we would all want a heads up to make a decision to keep our trophies or exchange them.

I'd get behind removing the turn-in system for trophies as a first phase. Then as the item count for silver on the shard drops below usable levels in the silver turn-in system, remove that too.
Remaining silver pieces would then be rares.

Trammy lovers would never support it though ;)

Two reasons:

1. People constantly whined that the events UOSA had to get silver were not era accurate because they were automated and on a schedule. They whined until they got their way and they were removed.

2. People were essentially farming the events for silver. Many people ran multiple clients to ensure they got a piece or silver and many times there was no one to police them.
