LoS Issues - Keeps/Towers/Castles(cy)

Post by HardCore »

As many have experienced recently, there are line of sight issues with keeps/castles/towers. Players have the ability to toss purple pots through walls from the outside killing players inside. Apparently, this is not an "exploit". The purpose of this thread is not to point fingers, but to help players figure out what we can do to avoid waking up dead because of AFK sitting in our "secure" houses.

All I've heard so far is that the second floor of a tower, keep, and castle (if cy is public) should be safe, as well as the possibility of one tile in the center of a keep on the first floor.

Picture showing the results of the LoS issue in a keep:

Bug Report - How to Target Under a House

Additional Details

Really there are no safe places to macro in a house anymore.

To clarify this post, you can easily be killed on the second floor using AOE spells.

In a tower? You can be killed on every tile, every level. Same with a castle if they have access to the courtyard.

Dead center on the 2nd floor of a keep is the only spot that I cannot reliably target, but it is possible.

Telamon does that include the roof of a keep? Using stools to get to the top is that area unsafe as well?

I'd assume purple potions still ignore z-axis, so there's no difference between which floor you're on.

Dead center on the 2nd floor and the roof are somewhat safe. In my testing I was unable to do damage to the center tile using anything other than a purple poition (Damage Range 3).

Since Purple potions have a limits z axis range of damage (upward for 5-10?) if you are on the upper floors you are safe.

However all it takes for someone to be able to kill you dead center is a small adjustment to their Z axis, I haven't verified a way to do this but I am sure some variant of angular targeting will allow chain lightning to target the center tile of a keep on all 3 levels.

Think about looking downwards at an angle to the ground. You are basically seeing through a small crack in the houses LOS calculations allowing you to see a small range of ground tiles under the house. So with the right angle it possible to target further under a keep.

Long story short, I wouldn't macro a stat red character in a tower/keep or castle. Well anywhere really. Time to start building boat blockades.

You can elevate your z-axis to get anyone on any floor.

Just an example, good luck though. Don't exactly have a C:\Boat Blockade\ folder on my computer.
