Colored Armor and Shields; era specific

So, unless i'm not remembering old-school UO correctly, I don't think the current mining data available on UO stratics is correct when it comes to colored ore's benefits on smithed items.

I've GM'd mining and have colored ore coming out the ass that no one wants to buy. I've got my smith up to about 80 and I've been wondering: what are the era-specific bonuses on various armor colors? Or is there actual "fire resist" "luck" and "poison resist" stats?

Thanks :)

As far as I remember this was during the AOS era after they cancelled magic items off every tera warrior. (The poison resist etc.

I remember it giving more armor the higher the quality of ore.

There was a time in UO when different colored ore produced higher-AR giving armor. I want to say this was a UO:R/Post UO:R addition.

As fire resist and whatnot, that is all post AOS (when UO became "Diablo 2.5" by copying the item-based system so obviously.. luck.. magic find? same types of resist, and I believe there are a few more similarities)

So currently, the armor adds AR? So a full valorite suit still is pretty beefy?

I don't beleive it does, and if it does it is wrong. Added benefits to armor and such by metal type was well after T2A. All I remember it for in T2A was for the peeps sitting by the bank wearing verite/valorite armor and looking l33t.

It's just a status symbol. Only the rich players can afford a full suit of verite/valorite. I'm surprised more townies don't wear it around to proclaim their 1337ness

In fact I don't think I've seen one person wear anything above shadow around town.

You can just use it as normal armor, it's not like it has a superior value here, wearing gold, verite, or valorite is the same as wearing iron. Most people forget that if there isn't a demand for it, just because its harder to come by, doesn't mean it's worth anything extra

Nay, colored armor was only a visual change to the game.

As for armor with a higher durability...
Blacksmithy Essay (Stratics) circa 01/25/99 wrote:Exceptional Weapons and Armor have more Durability and do more damage or give more protection than Average Weapons and Armor do. Examples:

* Exceptional Plate = AR of 36, Durability = +5 to +10 hps
* Exceptional Viking = 26+ Damage + 1-3 Damage (Ruin/Might), Durability = +10 to +20 hps
* Exceptional Heater = with 70% parrying 1 less AR than Chaos Shield, Durability = +5 to +10 hps
