Well, some people like to keep their stuff regardless, and also, it depends on what you're blessing.

For example, if you're blessing a pair of sandals, you can prevent them from breaking by wearing pants/kilt with higher AR than the sandals. That way the pants/kilt will take the damage, saving your sandals from breaking.
