Important Announcement: A New Direction for UOSA
Posted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 1:29 pm
Dear UOSA Players:
I just want to begin by saying that Ultima Online: The Second Age is the greatest game I have ever played. For the past four plus years, I have been continually amazed at both the quality of the T2A era game and the quality of this shard. T2A-era Ultima Online is without equal in the freedom and challenges presented to the players. UOSA is without equal in the quality of its staff and player base. The shard consistently gives the player the highest quality multi-player game experience possible, and that is due in no small part to the dedication of Derrick and his staff.
But things change.
Over the past two months, Derrick and I have been negotiating for the transfer of ownership and oversight of the shard to me. Today, we announce that, effective immediately, I am the owner of the shard. I will take over all financial responsibilities as well be the final say in changes to the game. I have assembled a team to work both on coding and on player interaction.
I will say more about some shakeups below, but first I want to address what Derrick and I agree to be the most serious issue for many players: I know this will worry some of you. My time on the shard has been wonderful. I have made a lot of friends and had a lot of adventures, but along the way I have also made a number of enemies and even caused some people to quit playing the game entirely. I, and my guild, have played with a certain style and a set of goals that make life difficult for others on UOSA. We do not apologize. We believe our style of play is a legitimate, and indeed necessary, part of the real T2A experience. But rest assured that my former life as guildmaster of cA is behind me. In my new role as Lead Designer and Shard Owner, I will strive to be as neutral as possible on all matters including game design and player-staff interaction.
I think at this point I should tell you what we have in store for you at UOSA.
1. Staff Shakeups
UOSA staff have wonderful, but I feel I will be able to work best with a new team composed of people I know and trust. Staff will be composed from now on almost purely of former cA members. This means the end of cA as a player guild, but it will be worth it in the end.
The Core Team
1. chumbucket, Lead Designer and Shard Owner
2. Matron de Winter, Assistant Designer and Chief of Player-Staff Relations
3. Pristiq, Head Programmer and IRC Developer
4. Lelouche, Chief of Forum Moderation
5. ian, Lead Seer and In-Game Fiction Master
Gamemasters
1. Maahes (We kept him because he cried.)
2. Miller
3. Downs
4. Applejack
5. Darwin (Formerly a GM of the same name on production shards!)
We will be accepting applications for more gamemasters and two assistant shard programmers. Please PM me your applications.
2. Player Bans
The new UOSA will not accept troublemakers. The following players are being preemptively banned based on their previous activities on UOSA.
1. GuardianKnight
2. hemperor
3. HIIMMIKE
4. Blackfoot
5. Telamon aka Brules (IPs can tell you a lot.)
A new zero tolerance policy is now in place. If you so much as annoy a staff member, you will be banned immediately and forever. DO NOT CROSS US.
3. Gameplay Changes
We aim to continue the policy of era accuracy minus a few small changes.
1. Razor will now be mandatory. You cannot log in except through Razor.
2. Mongbats will now spawn in towns.
3. The recall spell may be cast only once every three days.
4. Mongbats have a chance to split when struck.
5. The cities of Nujelm, Occlo, and Minoc are being sealed off and will no longer be available for player use.
6. Mongbats have level 5 poison.
7. Guards will not kill mongbats in town.
8. Mongbats will have 120 magery and 120 evaluate intelligence.
9. Mongabts have a chance (1-in-3) to insta-kill opponents.
10. Mongbats will move twice as fast as a normal NPC.
11. A shrine to our new mongbat gods will be placed on top of WBB.
Sincerely,
chumbucket
