Post by Moriarti »

i'm thinking of buying a boat. what kind of return on my investment could i get with a gm fisherman? Boats are around 12k....so my question is how long would it take me to make that back.

Well, you can sell your fish steaks (cooked) for about 2:1, fish:gold (i.e. 1k gold for 2k fish steaks). You can get crazy stuff like MiBs (later on when you're closer to gm) to boost your earning. So I guess to answer your question it depends on how much fishing you're willing to do but probably a week or two. Not sure what the market is like for fish here since I'm fairly new.

Boat mining on the other hand... Well I'd bet you could make enough ingots back within a day or two. Mind the pirates

The attached image shows you where you can boat mine. Essentially it's strip mining, just on a boat. That way you can store the ore in the hold until you're done. Then go into port and smelt in batches. Of course, as I said, you have to mind the pirates, not to mention other miners that use this spot as well.

[edit] Back in the day people used to macro mine there. Leave their clients on all night and hope to wake up with loads of ore. There's a lot of boats with no owners on OSI shards to block it but I would assume that here, with a more involved GM population, there's no need for the obstacles so you can mine fairly quickly and get a good amount if you're lucky enough to avoid would-be pirates.

You can use the stuck option and get back to town.. you get 2 keys when u place a boat. One is on your dead body and the other one is in the bank.

Use the bank one to recall/gate to the boat.

yes, kinda

if you also have a key and get there first and re-deed then you retain possession. If they do it however its theirs since re-deeding invalidates the old keys.

Yes, but you can always use the spare key in your bank and bring the boat back to land and place the boat again to get a new set of keys.
