How is a rare not considered a resource?

The Staff answer that I got was that it was not a resource because you could not sell it to an NPC, regardless of the fact that rares are worth a minimum of 1gp to any player.

RESOURCE
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resource
"A resource is a source or supply from which benefit is produced. Typically resources are materials or other assets that are transformed to produce benefit and in the process may be consumed or made unavailable"

^^^^^^^^^^^^
Are they benefiting from it...YES

Is it an asset....YES

The definition of resource should not even be up for debate if you speak English and not Engrish.

I can post the definitions of the words: source, supply, benefit, and asset also if this is not clear enough for anyone. I would hope anyone above the age of 12 would not need it though.
