New Guy says Hello
Hello everybody.
I'm a new player on this shard with about 2 weeks under my belt. I've been scouring the forums and wiki for all the info I've needed to re-acclimate with Second Age and min/max my way back to former glory. I even dug out my 1000(?) page guide book from the ol' tupperware tub in the basement. I brought a friend with me and we've been enjoying the nostalgia factor and can see ourselves sticking around for quite a while, seeing as how the community seems to be pretty.. interesting?
Starting out is Rough! Getting Noob PK'd at graveyards until you literally have 0 gold or regs, trying to scrape by. Sticking a nickle in the keyboard (what I did back in the day before Razor) to get begging up to 20 to buy a reg to heal myself and head back out there. Never felt more like a piece of crap, and loved it all the same. Most games don't let you hit rock f'ing bottom because of all the hand holding.
The people are great so far. I let a thief walk right up to me in town, browse the bottomless pit of nothing I had in my pouch, and she felt so sorry for me she gave me 1000 gold to get going. Another kool kat bought me a mount off a guy selling some llamas nearby. I was blown away by the generosity a lot of players have, and I understand it's probably the same people who kill me on their alts!
It's fun to be back and I love what this shard has created so far, let-alone recreated from the past. Can't wait to get a house and work on fighting back against the Red. And probably have one on the side myself, of course.

I like seeing people keep at it even though its tough and difficult. I dont know how many posts Ive read about new and old players that end up quitting just because they get killed and lose VIRTUAL items and money. I mean sure when i get PKd and all my stuff taken, it sucks and Im all pissed off for a bit. But i learn from it and try not to take the same course of action that got me killed.
There have been lots of people that have come, fallen, and then left because "its too hard to be successfull when you have murderous savages taking everything you worked for." Well, this is not the place for those kind of players. They need to go to a Trammel server and play neon dress up and keep everything they have "worked" for to be happy. Here at UOSA we say good riddance to those cry babies and welcome the tough, hearty ones, like you, that enjoy the challenge of living in the second age era.

Thanks guys. As I write this, I am stranded on Avatar Island by the Fire Temple due to a blue making friends with me, and then arbitrarily decides to blow me up after he got bored 20 minutes later. It is difficult and you have to know what you're getting into when you join this shard. I really don't care about losing my haul. Being put out of the game indefinitely because you're stuck kindof sucks. I really have to realize you can't even trust the people that are nice to you out in the wilds, even if they are Glorious Lords.
Of course I'm not giving up, but I still think I've got to recall as soon as I see ANY player roll onto my screen. At least until I can cast an EB without fail!

I've been PK'd just as much by blue Glorious Lord tamers as I have Red PKsHandsome Hammer wrote:Thanks guys. Happened several times now they've rocked up to dungeon levels I've been on and killed me without warning. If I see a red I usually make a get away so don't actually die, but I never expect it from the blues.

Use the stuck feature under the help tab on your paper doll. just make sure you are in a safe place to do so if you are alive...otherwise you will be frozen in place until you are teleported and possibly killed.

I believe staff has said this is an abuse of the "stuck" feature. It should only be used if you character is phycially frozen/stuck. Being "stranded" doesn't count as stuck. Just a heads up.Cousteau Calypso wrote:Use the stuck feature under the help tab on your paper doll. just make sure you are in a safe place to do so if you are alive...otherwise you will be frozen in place until you are teleported and possibly killed.

Abuse?
So you are tellin me that if some newb picks up a rune that says Moonglow on it, recalls to it without grabbing another rune, and finds himself/herself on the tiny island circled in the pic below (this is the island that T-map #5 is on), he/she would be "abusing" the system by using it as a free recall? You gotta be kidding me! You get stuck on and island with no way off. There is a limit to how many times you can use it, how often you can use it or something like that. You even have to wait like, I dont know, 10 minutes before you are teleported anywhere. You are frozen the entire time. Cant move. Cant cast. Mostly defenseless. AND The location is random.
How would this be abuse?

So true. I got stuck dead at terethan keep once because i fell behind a wall off of a cliff while running from an avenger while deadly poisoned. I guess I abused the stuck system then when i could only move 2sq.Cousteau Calypso wrote:Abuse?

don't shoot the messenger, just repeating what I've been told on a few different occasions. get on IRC and ask for a gate. IIRC, this feature wasn't even in era. It's only here to cut down on pages for GMs so they can focus on more important matters.Cousteau Calypso wrote:Abuse?
