Pets dissapearing from boats

I have a boat placed in an untraveled part of water near a dead town and I find my dragons/wyrms dissapearing. I played for 24 hours straight and come to find that they just up and dissapear. I have had a total of 11 dragons and 2 wyrms dissapear. Seemed to have this same problem in my tower also. Starting to feel like the server is cheating me...
