I can never remember which modifier is which. Is this the 4th place modifier? I.e. "+20" or its archery equivalent?

Is the preferred bidding method public (in thread) or over PM? I've seen several posts with both. My last couple were "bid-in-thread" type auctions. Just thought I'd try it this way, but I'm open to whatever the majority prefers.
