Blessings after a house decays?

Post by Ronk »

Two things im curious about...

1. What should become of blessings when a house decays?
2. What should become of blessings when a house is sold or transfers ownership?

Recently there was an IDOC tower near the orc cross roads. It has a special road leading up to the front of it. Now there is a road to no where and a small house nearby. It brings up an interesting point...should the blessings stay? Should a GM be paged and have them 'decay with the house'? What about if the house was sold instead of decayed? Should that change anything?

old blessings should go like the swamp tower with the light post to the SW of bog of desolation or the Benches and junk in old T^B

Wasn't this improvement (12-15 tiles of road) related to the Urk town at some point? Why not simply replace the tower and reclaim the improvement for the mighty Urk'en empire?

Its possible, if it was an orc tower though, I think it woulda been decorated as such. Though that point matters little. Orc or not, I think its a valid topic. If blessings are granted for a specific reason/purpose, should they be permanent even when a building changes hands?

Obviously, that spot has some value if the road stays because it becomes a unique spot and is perfect for vendors (not that vendors are useful, especially in the middle of orc territory)

That is a good point. In the example above, assuming the new house is placed to line up correctly with the road...it really can't do any harm. Though I could see eye sore blessings being removed.

I don't remember leftovers from any defunct downs on GL, though they may be there. I know the Bloodrock Fort was a left over from some seer event. Then again, I was a noob in UO and its possible there were tons of left overs I just never realized what they were.

On OSI you were required 50k public house visits to be considered worthy of a blessing (What the seer told us in 1999 when the Farland Clan was trying to have its patio blessed). Generally you had to have a use for the area.

Once the house was blessed however it stopped decaying. Thats why these houses with this deco never went defunct and collapsed and why you didnt see half player towns like that.

Look at Red Devils tower on GL. It was there 2 - 3 years ago it should still be today. Owner hasnt played since 2001 or 2002.

The situation with the light poles at the forge that fell is different than the 'admin blessed' add ons.
Those light poles were awards to that house for winning a decoration contest. If the house is gone, they should be gone.
The player got a reward on his own for the contest, the poles were for the house.

For the record, the road was not to a tower orginally. Originally it was to a Smithy. That smithy decayed about 8 months ago. After that a tower was placed with the purchase of a few other houses around.

As for the topic. I say the road stays. There was a decision made up the higher ups to add something to the game. That decision should be final until otherwise stated.

Good info! I never knew that. But that brings me back to my one point. In the case of the tower, it was placed to fit the road nicely. What if, three weeks from now, theres still a weird road ending to nowhere and a small house off the side?

I for one am a fan of those half left 'ruins' of old player towns/add ons
Makes people ask/wonder what used to be there? What ungodly monstrosity of a player tavern once occupied this overgrown and forgotten part of the map? How did it fall to ruin!

etc

oh so "some things should stay" and others should not lol i see how it is. i am all for all Things going bye bye like dg town they ran a few events got blessed and vanished of the shard at least most of them. Does the guild still exist? yes. Have various homes along those roads decayed and been replaced? yes do they still host events? no they should have blessing taken away like pod had taken away as should every other blessed established area thats just taking up space. See T^B remaining addons see poo same area lost there blessings. Ace ? various decays yet the addons remain. Mym blessed house / duel pit does the guild even really play anymore aside from the hey "lets login uosa today" hardly. its like peoples goal is to establish them selfs then a group of players and obtain blessing then retire. at this rate the entire map is going to be covered in blessings.

Thats my take. A blessed establishment is one thing...a blessed empty town is completely another.

Someone used Red Devils as an example. If I had to guess id say that place is undecayable now. Its shard history. Its on a different category than half a road that leads, now, to no where in the middle of no where.
