Extreme Lag

Post by Apocal »

As of lately I have been having a lot of lag. The computer that is running it is top of the line and is running on an above T1 grade cable line. I haven't had lag like this in the past. My character is physically jumping every couple of seconds. Ping to google for reference 9ms avg on 4 pings. Ping to uosecondage 46ms average on 4 pings.

every night around prime time hours 6pm-10pm EST I ping anwhere from 250-500 sometimes with 50% loss on 4 pings. I can not play at all. This started about 2 weeks ago that I noticed. a tracert shows a router in Level3.net being the culprit everytime (PEER-1-NETW.edge2.Washington3.Level3.net). This router it would appear is a second hop within the same network, making me think it's definitely a router issue, and nothing on my cable's side.

Maybe call your ISP and have them call that ISP .. and see if you can get res. time till issue is fixed.. other then that .. I myself don't know of any good free programs that will alter the main paths taken from place to place..

It's not on brighthouse networks' (bhn). Level3.net is a HUGE NOC. We're talking a main internet hub in a building the size of a football field with thousands of routers/servers. Uosecondage.com is routing out of the peer1 network. The pings start getting insane exactly when it enters the peer1 network within the Level3 network at the last hops.

13 560 ms * 486 ms PEER-1-NETW.edge2.Washington3.Level3.net [4.71.2
34.6]
14 435 ms 489 ms 501 ms 10ge.ten1-2.wdc-sp2-cor-1.peer1.net [216.187.115
.234]

This is something I would call the uosecondage host about. Either catch them in the act when it is happening which is almost daily around 8pm EST, or ask them for a nagios report (or whatever monitoring they use). Losing entire packets is HUGE. I mean that's like the ultimate no-no for a hosting company. Not to mention the ping spikes at primetime (from 80ms during the day to 400ms at night).

I love UOsecondage and I love that it's free and there's such an awesome community, so please don't take this as complaining. I just want to see if other people are experiencing it, and try to get to the bottom of it.

These last few days I have been experiencing extreme lag every time I log on, for the entire duration I am on.

My char literally walks/runs two steps, then stops. Then two more steps. Stop. Repeat ad infinitum.

I have been playing here for over 3 months, and haven't had this issue before.

Edit: I believe I take 1 step then stop. The step feels longer when "galloping" on a horse.

I haven't solved this, but I have found something interesting.

If I log out of UO, close the client, re-start Razor, log in again... I have no lag for a couple of minutes.

I'm guessing this has something to do with my laptop setup?

Windows 7 (32 bit), 3GB RAM, UO Client v5.0.8.3 (Patch 204), Razor v1.0.12

Have you disabled "Use Smart CPU Reduction" in Razor? This can cause this issue I belive.

I'm sorry i didn't mention this possibility. Yes, this has been a Razor bug for years. If you "move" in a razor macro you client will choke up until you restart it, not just log out and back in, but close UO client completely. There is no known fix for this.
This is the source of my client lag! I'm so happy I can hardly contain myself.

* Zelek leaps around room in utter joy *

As a first time home-owner (after saving for 3 months), I thought I was clever with a macro that automated walking through my home security setup... I didn't realise that this was causing the problem. This is a major newbie "gotcha"!

Thanks very much for taking time to personally answer my posting Derrick. I really appreciate the support, as the lag issue was getting me down. So glad I saw your answer in that other thread!

Now that I know this, I'm seeing it in other postings. I need to tattoo this on the back of my hand (from viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25341):
