what kind of items should i be looking for for a hally mage? what would a perfect suit look like?
is there any difference between different mounts on how long they can run without having to rest? if so, what is the best animal to use?
i'll probably come up with a lot more but cant think of anything right now. just started here, im much more familiar with newer uo at which i can say i am pretty good so if there is any guild that is looking for members i should be a useful addition once ive learned how things work here

No armour, just clothes.
Use protection spell.
Best equipment is a few of all pots, a bunch of each reg, and the best hally you can afford.
If no magic hallies, then go GM.
Eventually move to things like invis/tele/gheal/reflect charged items.

thanks. also, id appreciate any general tips, like how to prevent getting everything stolen/what i should definitely NOT do/etc. reading the wiki atm and it seems ok but any additional info is useful

Use frenzies as a mount. They have high stam, and you can get them cheap.
To prevent getting stolen from, put all your items inside a lockable box and cast the magic lock spell on it, be sure it weighs at least 11 stones, and as long as you're not afk, you should notice if someone is trying to steal from you. Hally's are too heavy and can't be stolen, so no need to worry about carrying them on the outter most level of your backpack. You might want to keep a rune on the top most layer of your pack, if so, you might want to put a piece of newbied clothing over it, it can still be stolen useing steal by type, but I have not seen that happen too much.

If you find one previously trained you can tame it then immediately feed it ribs 1 at a time (10 of em). Then mount and yer good. Apparently if you try to order it (all follow, all stay, etc), you risk it getting pissed off.
