What skill helps with smelting colored ore? Smithy or Mining? I'm a GM miner and I'll only get about 2 or so ingots from 10-20 verite/valorite ore. Do I need higher smithing? or is this just how it goes?

I think it's a combination of both mining and BS...

Smelting is currently based on blacksmithy. Checking this for correctness right now

Aye, you guys are correct:
UO Website wrote: The amount of ingots smelted from an item is dependent on your Mining skill level, the condition of the item being smelted, and the type of metal used to create the item. For more information on smelting, see the Mining skill.

Just so I understand now, when I smelt a rare ore like verite or valorite should I be getting more ingots? or is this only for smelting items that have already been crafted... or both?

note: im gm miner, 50 smith.

no, smelting is when you turn crafted items back into inggots. Has nothing to do with turning ore to inggots. THat always yields 2 inggots per big ore at max.

SO if your smith has gm mining he should gm smithing cheaper than a smith without it. Luckliy for me i gm'd smithing when smelting was based of smithing... I dont have mining on my crafting char but i do have a seperate gm miner..
