Talking about what skills to start with...
Out of poisoning, alchemy and magery which do you not star with (buy to 30.)??
Another choice i have had (on a different template) is between healing and magery.
I remember always thinking to start with Taming/Magery/Healing if you needed any of those in your class.
What do you all think is the hardest (OR MOST EXPENSIVE) to gain from 30-50.

Re: Hardest skill from 30-50
Warrior - The two I always go with are Healing/Resist
Mage - Depends on the template but Magery/Healing or Magery/Inscribe or Magery/resist etc..
Mule - Alchemy/Smith for sure. If it is a smith

In a template that has magery/alchemy/poisoning which one do you not start with?

Re: Hardest skill from 30-50
alchemy is more expensive then magery
start with 50 poison/alchy

One think Xukluk. You mention inscribe a few posts up and that skill can be raised from 0-48 or 49 for free by copying one book to another.
Just posting that incase you didnt know
Re: Hardest skill from 30-50
I find starting with resist kinda pointless if you are trying to save gold/time. Buy it to 30'ish and raise it as you cast on yourself is the way I go. I have quite a few chars over a few accounts with GM resist and didn't find a huge difference in cost/time. I ended up in the low 90's when I gm'ed magery and had to just top off resist regardless how I started.
I have 1 GM scribe, and selling the scrolls back helped offset the cost. You won't get into the positive gold gain until the relatively higher circles, but at 4th circle you will make the invaluable recalls. I would suggest the book until recalls then recalls to ebolt etc. One would save time by starting with it, but no other huge benefit.
For a warrior char, I would never start out with anat, wep skill, tactics, meditation (if a tank). On a warrior char I will start out with resist and magery though, mainly because there are few other skills with such a high cost that aren't as easy to macro that a warrior would take. Sparring with another player (second account) will take care of wep skill, healing, tactics, and anat (if you imbed anat in your heal macro since passive gain is now done).
for crafters Alchemy is a great choice for starting. I dunno about poisoning though. By the time you GM alchemy you will have so many poison pots of different levels, you will have them coming out of your ears. Blacksmith and tinkering are the two I always start a crafter out with if that is the route you want to take a crafter. So many other skills are aided by tinkering (mining, alchemy), and it is very resource intensive.
For non standard chars, depending on the style, I chose to start with taming magery (for a tamer), magery resist for most others (bard, etc) mainly because I play my chars and macro only at bedtime (so I like the little benefit of resist).
Just my two cents if they aren't too random of thoughts.
