CPU on the performance

How influential are physical memory and CPU on the performance of games? For instance, if you had two computers that were identical, except one had a dualcore processor and 1 gig of ram, and the other had a hexacore CPU and 4 gig of ram, how noticeable would the performance difference be?

If you had one thing, and the other was better, would there be a difference?

Your question is kind of like "If you were walking, and I was running, who'd get to the finish line first?"

To really answer your question, it basically depends on the type of games you play. Ultima Online itself is more CPU-based and was designed to run on a Pentium 133Mhz CPU with 16 MB of ram so even your most generic eMachine or generic laptop will run it just fine.

When you start talking about games like Crysis 2 or Skyrim, you need a faster CPU to retrieve the artwork and calculate or 'create' the environment, a lot of memory to store all this information as well as fast memory for the cpu/video card to retrieve it again, and a better video card to process the images and environment into a displayable graphic or 'world.'

I just went from a computer with a 1.8 ghz pentium 4 and 256 ram (originally came with windows millenium edition, it era accurate!) to a computer with a 1.6ghz dual core(3.2) and 2 gigs of ram and now it actually looks like I'm moving the same speed as everyone else on screen.

Am I the only one here noticing that this is a spambot?
