Non-GM Hiding

I'm making a lockpicker and thinking about taking some points out of hiding to put elsewhere. How much of a difference in ability am I going to see between GM and 90? GM and 80? Is it OK to take those points out, or should I just leave it at GM? Thanks.

My lockpicker:

100 str
100 int
25 dex

100 hiding
100 stealth
100 magery
100 lockpicking
100 musicianshio
100 provoke
100 cartography

for what i use her for, it gets me by. if I'm doing a T map, i keep my tank mage a recall away in case someone tries to steal the chest.

Correct me if i'm wrong but hiding skill is a direct measurement of the % chance you will be successful in hiding. So at 90 hiding you will be able to hide 90% of the time. Which means 10% of the time the pk chasing you will have a much better chance of killing you. It's definitely ok to not have gm hiding, but I personally like having that peace of mind that I will never fail to hide.

If you have somewhere good to put those points, there is not much difference between 90 and gm hiding. You will still almost always succeed at using the skill. The only real reason to GM the skill is so that you can hide 8 tiles from a combatant, but then again, if you are 8 tiles near them, they will see where you hid, so unless you have stealth that is pointless. When doing things like that (hiding in close prox to combatant) you need to use stealth quickly (invis item) anyway. Hiding success is really only good to get hidden in the first place, 90 hide gm stealth should be fine.

That isn't necessarily true. Hiding is a good way to make a person waste 20 mana casting reveal. On top of that, if they are clumsy you can time casting a recall right as they are targeting the reveal.

Depending on timing, as well, you can rehide immediately after they reveal and force them to waste another 20 mana.

Granted, as with anything, it depends who and what equip/items they have.

Except that nobody worth their salt will waste time with reveal, and instead come at you with a purple potion.

My point holds true.

I'm telling applejack to ban you from the guild!
