No offense, Le Tigre, but I second Pac's remark.
Though Pac and I may be the only people on the internet that avoid those sites.

okey dokey. sounds anti social to me. Communication is changing my friends. Don't get stuck out of the loop still using a rotary phone like my poor grandma did.
Anyway I found 4 people on my friends list that used to play and pimped our shard. but thanks for giving me a reasonable why not. I accept that reason.

Computer nerds don't like Facebook and Twitter because it provides objective and discernable proof that they are nerds with nerd friends who they have never met!

Real computer nerds don't like them because they destroy privacy.

I'm all about privacy - but there is of course no requirement or obligation to post all of your tiny little personal details that you want to keep to yourself. For instance, there's no requirement that you put up a status update or "tweet" that you just GM'd your blacksmith - that way hot girls don't see it or know what you do when you are not macking them.
As far as targeted advertising goes - I like it. I actually find it quite useful to have special deals and cheap products offered to me that I am interested in. It beats getting brute force advertising delivered in the form of pamphlets in my letterbox.
I'm interested to know what privacy concerns you are concerned about, computer nerd? Especially given that any information you put on there is essentially a voluntary choice - bar, perhaps, if you don't run script and app blockers to stop sneaky trackers following you.

How about the fact that Facebook has been known to up and change their privacy policy and settings (sometimes without notice), making information you thought was secret, public to its vendors and other members?
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2009/12/f ... d-and-ugly
Or the fact that applications are often malicious, or simply vulnerable to exploitation, and leak private data?
http://blogs.csoonline.com/1505/another ... e_facebook
http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=10864&rss
How about Facebook itself being subject to attack?

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/06/01 ... king_worm/
http://threatpost.com/en_us/blogs/faceb ... ata-050510
Couple those things with a few interesting web scripts, and you've got yourself a (practically) legal data breach:
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/0 ... ce=nww_rss
And that's not even scratching the surface. The ways it opens you to social engineering attacks such as phishing or other targeted threats is frightening. Not to mention the fact that it enables hackers to circumvent multi-factor authentication questions like those used by banks or which many sites ask during a password reset process. Go ahead, use "Which highschool did you attand" or "The name of your favorite pet" in order to protect your bank account...surely no one can figure those things out with a five second glance at your FB profile.

In my opinion what Malaikat is saying is that he has insufficient irl friends to fill out a Facebook page, therefore he has turned on the entire regime to exact his revenge on society.
But hey - proof of the pudding - see what you can find out about me on my Facebook page. Go ahead, I'm interested to see what an expert computer hacker can find out about me. Tell me what my bank account questions are too please.

So you think I could exact revenge on society by removing myself from it, although I already had no societal presence in the first place?
I've been here since December of last year. Want to take a poll to see which of us is more well liked on these forums?

I'm not a hacker, I'm an information security and risk management specialist. However, I'm at no lack for proof. How about you try some of the links I've already provided for starters?
