Tracking; How little is too little?

Post by shire99 »

I'm toying around with tracking and meditation; they will have to equal 100 points combined. I'm thinking 60 med and 40 tracking (real), but I'm wondering if 30 or 20 tracking is even worth it.

Would 20 to 30 tracking be even somewhat useful?

Anyone who can offer insight as to how beneficial low levels of tracking (20 or 30) are would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

i thought 23.7 real tracking was all that's needed for tracking on screen

Yikes. Pretty sure Detect Hidden has no impact on Tracking skill here. In fact, I don't think it has anything to do with the tracked person's Hiding or Stealth either. It's purely a function of Tracking skill, which only determines the range at which you track.

did you pull this from current Stratics or archive.org's backup? Link?

Tracking on UOSA seems to be a linear function of your displayed Tracking skill. I believe I found that at GM Tracking, I could track monsters and players as far as 120 game tiles away. Tracking also ignores hiding and stealth and one's own detect hidden skill. At this point I don't have any information that states that Tracking worked differently in 1999.

I have never had that happen to me. So I took my GM Hider, GM Stelther and hid him 10 tiles away from where my 82 skill tracker was. Tracked him 50 times out of 50. Never missed a track. This was out in the field and not inside a house, mind you (although I don't know if it has any real effect).

I tend to agree with Mikel on this one, and the formula you posted is probably from a patch made in OSI during the last 12 years after our era.

For Shire: I'd say tracking around 30 should be more than enough to track ppl on your screen.

21.4 real tracking is enough to detect anyone hidden on your screen and follow them up to several screens away (follow distance doesn't seem to be affected by skill.)
