If the cut-off was moved (Hypothetical)

Assuming the staff does not have a problem with this hypothetical discussion, what does everyone think woud be the pros, cons, and ramifications of moving the cut off date from the Nov 23, 1999 to just before trammel was released. If this happened, it would still be T2A as UO:R was not official until trammel (I think).

I briefly browsed the list of patch notes and some of the following would occur for better or worse:
- Increased lock downs and secures but item decay in houses and on boats.
- Secure house trading.
- Unlimited bank weight.
- Pre-casting goes away.
- Untamed creatures in an invalid location will 'die' after a set period of time. (Will not affect houses)
- Only one escort at a time.
- Trade window changes (no trapped boxes, no recent stolen items, etc)
- Pet loyalty increased to 24 hours.
- Guild masters no longer have to accept candidacy.
- Monster treasure revamp. Monster won't carry bags. Some changes to treasure (whats this?)
- Moonstones implemented (they do nothing)
- Secure pet trading.
- (DEX Fix) Healing time is now dex based. I.E. ~11 seconds instead of 16 at 100 dex.

This concludes a cut off of before but not including 03/09/2000. Below are changes that include 03/09/2000 and go through and including 03/16/2000.

- Shortened skill delays for some abilities (detect, anatomy, etc).
- Power Hour (yuck)
- 8x8 introduction (I think)
- Stats will now only have a chance raise when you successfully gain in a skill. (This implies that prior to this you could gain a stat by using a skill without actually gaining the skill)
- Secondary skill gain (eval can raise when magery used, etc)
- Bank Checks
- NPC shopkeepers will no longer have colored sandals. Evil NPC Mages will carry these items.
- NPC shopkeepers will give a murder count when they die unless they are criminal or evil.
- If a shopkeeper is killed, a new shopkeeper will appear as soon as another player (other than the one that killed it) approaches.
- Any shopkeeper that is currently [invulnerable] will lose that status except for stablemasters.
- A trapped chest cannot be opened until the trap is disarmed and the lock removed
- Using the key on the chest will bypass the trap.

Note: I didn't see any info on bola's, special weapon attacks, recharging the attack timer as you move, etc. I guess this was all UO:R.

Edit: Just to be clear for those who do not know what hypothetical means. I am not suggesting we move it. In addition, you can announce to the world that you'll quit if something changes and pretend anyone cares but as I am not not petitioning to get anything changed I think you have little to worry about. Hence why this is in the discussion forum and not the era accuracy forum.

This is going to become a flamewar, even though it's only hypothetical.
I only see two pros in that list, unlimited bankweight and secondary skillgain. The rest is only cons imo. Most in that list removes the risk and excitement that makes UO for me.

If the cut-off was moved, the whole shard would have to be rebuilt. A lot of people would most likely leave. I know I would leave if we moved any closer towards Trammel.

Clearly the precast would anger a lot of people as they would have to retool their macros and style. But I was always in favor of removing precast. For obvious reasons, I am also in favor of dex helping healing. I don't like anything from the second batch of changes (8x8, power hour? uhg).

I do also like the idea of unlimited bank weight.

I am indifferent about secure house/pet transfer. These two and the trade window changes are the only trammey things in the first batch that I noticed.

Hell no, absolutely not, and I would quit.

I dislike all changes listed. I'd prefer us to look at some of the more stupid things we have in era & roll them back (#1 would be snooping revealing stealthed players) as opposed to introducing these changes.

- Monster treasure revamp. Monster won't carry bags. Some changes to treasure (whats this?)

This one is interesting though. Should monsters be carrying bags?

Snooping does reveal stealthed players. It does not reveal hidden players.

Well, some NPC's like sheperds have bags. I don't think ALL monsters ever had bags, just occasionally some would.

i know. my point is, from what i read, it was only like this for a short time in our time period.

It's a cool topic you brought up, i just like the idea of going the other direction with our target time frame.

I like most but not all of the ideas about it. I like the dex and healing part the most!

I would prefer the cut-off date be moved in the opposite direction when UO allowed more freedoms.

Yeah I agree too, our current cutoff date still seems a bit too carebear. I guess people wanted their stupid runebooks.

Well, one of you people who wanna discuss it moved in the opposite direction...make up a list of what would be cut out by moving it back.
