Hey guys,

I've not played UO in several years, I used to play Chessy, DF and then one or two free shards way back. My char was Khadgar and I was in several guilds such as RuN and SoA.

Does anyone remember me and want to get back in touch to play? I'm going to start a new char on Thursday once back from my honeymoon. Let me know ;)

welcome to uosa.
here few things to keep in mind

visit the guide section for skillgain tips.

visit irc channel for random + uo chat.

yes we are nice in irc and will help you with advice and what not but are going to kill/murder/rape you
ingame if you run into one of our reds.

use itemidentification skill on spellbook before you buy it until it shows you how many spells it has so you know you wont get scammed.

keep in mind during this era of uo runebooks are NOT blessed so dont carry em around keep those in ur bank or ur house !

keep you house always locked unless you only plan to use secured containers since locked down containers can be acessed and stuff can be taken out.

Looking forward to some pvp. I've not searched the forums but would you mind letting me know the following:

1) Can u heal when poisoned?
2) Does Anatomy + Evalu = wrestling?
3) Are hallys or Warhammers the order of the day for a tank mage?

Thanks mate

Heckler's advice was awesome. In addition...

- Keep regs and runes in a lockable box. Keep it open so you can target your runes when you want to recall manually and cast magic lock on the box so thieves can't snoop it or steal your regs/runes. Do not keep bandages in the box as you will not be able to access them with your bandage self hot key, however. Also make sure the box always weighs more than 10 stones so that they can't just steal the whole box. :p

- Make a recall macro to cast recall and target your town rune. When you get some cash buy an invis item and make this EMERGENCY macro for when you get jumped by PKs (or antis if you are a PK):
Cast Recall
pause 100ms
dress invis item
absolute target (town rune)

This macro will invis you before you finish casting recall so you don't get your recall interrupted. It will also deliver you to town invis'd just in case you're gray for whatever reason.

- Never carry a rune directly to your own house, keep it in the bank.

Welcome to UOSA and congratulations on the wedding!

EDIT
1) Can u heal when poisoned?
2) Does Anatomy + Evalu = wrestling?
3) Are hallys or Warhammers the order of the day for a tank mage?
1. Yes
2. What?
3. Hallys yes, war hammers I heard are funky with the insta-hit and I have not seen a single tank mage using one in the 80 or so days I've played here so whether you use one or not is up to you but if you're making a tank mage you may as well just use a hally.

2) Does Anatomy + Evalu = wrestling?
I'm not sure when they brought it in, but at some point if you had anatomy and evaluate int you didn't need wrestling. Can't remember if it was a free shard thing..

Khad

thats something they added either directly with age of shadows or like a month after aos release... so in short like already mentioned. no this does not work in here, if you have no wrestling you are 100% to get ur ass handed to you in an 1v1

@the hally warhammer topic

i think i dont have seen a tankmage with macing so far that might be the reason, most ppl go with hallys or nice vanq bardis.

oh and dont let urself getting discouraged, its easy to make slight mistakes in the beginning and loosing stuff that is worth alot to a new char, but you can only learn from stuff like that, just remember not to trust ppl too lightly, especially if they are offering free stuff and need you to step into a gate.

Thanks, last question. I've searched the forums a bit but couldn't find an answer..

Do you gain skill fast if your cap is under 225? If so then skills like resist which used to be hard would be best to gm earlier once I have enough cash to macro.

Khad.

not entirely sure what you are trying to ask, but I'll do my best to explain. I think you are aware that the STAT cap (ie. str, dex, int) is 225 total, with 100 being the maximum base for any given one. The SKILL cap is 700. To my knowledge, having higher stats will not hinder your skill gains whatsoever. Note that many skills receive a bonus from having stats. A skill like resist, as you mention, can be difficult to GM, but skill gain should not be dependent on your stats. Worth mentioning is that skill gain is generally slower the higher in skill IN THAT PROFICIENCY that your character is working on (ie. slower resist gains at 99.0 compared to 50.0), and this also does not depend on the total amount of skill points you have gained in other skills. Hope this explains it for you.

Ps. note that resisting spells does not gain a bonus from any stats. Finally, rate of stat gain IS dependent on the level of skill. For example, herding is great for raising pretty much all stats, especially strength. You will have better stat gains when herding is closer to 0 than when it is closer to GM

There's no difference other than you'll gain melee skills faster with higher dex stat because you'll swing faster. But as for skill gain speed below or above the 225 overall stat cap, there is no difference.

Gaining skills more slowly near the cap was a mechanic introduced in UO Hybrid which made for weird character creation (and the ability to mess up your character). We don't have that here.

Anat + EI = wrestle was introduced with publish 16, we don't have that here either.

Hally vs Warhammer - hally wins hands down. Given the mechanic here of using the wrestle timer to increase your swing speed (as a mage), your hally and war hammer will swing at exactly the same rate when cycled correctly. Hally does considerably more damage and is hands down the best weapon in the game for a mage.

Yeah SoA was Soldiers of Anarchy. I think Pac rings a bell, but it was a decade ago ;) I played from the original release until after age of shadows and then played a few free shards.
