Best one handed Mace Weapon

I am really intent on using a war ax and a shield. My question is what is the best mace and shield combo? Also what should I use the rest of my points on Tracking, Hiding ect? And does parry even work without a shield?

I believe that the war axe is generally accepted as the 'best' onehanded macing weapon. It is my personal opinion that the rest of your points should go to Wrestling to give you a better chance getting off clutch recalls and heals/cures in bad situations. Parry will not work without a shield.

IMO club is second best (after war axe) one-handed mace weap but can't be repaired

Matron tested this before and came up with the war mace as the best weapon for the best damage over time. Meaning it had better averages that put it over the other weapons as far as damage.

Yeh Ill prob switch between war axe and war mace. So just go with the heater shield?

Damage over time depends heavily on the AR of your opponent. And, on the enchantment level of the weapon you're using. If you're talking a +25 vanq, the war axe is better (and, the beauty of maces is that +25 vanqs are pretty inexpensive). I think the war axe is the best all-around weapon for macers.

I've also heavily advocated in the past against using a shield as a dexer. Your armor should provide more than enough protection, and the ability to chug a potion at any time without delay in my opinion far outweighs the benefit of saving a couple damage points here and there with a shield.

Parry doesn't work without a shield, btw, you are correct.

65.0 wrestling is better than nothing, I guess, but don't let it lull you into a false sense of security. I'd go with 65 tracking, but I love the heck out of that skill.

You should probably re-read what I wrote about the weapons. That was specifically geared towards possible weapon types for tank mage style cycling. I wouldn't use the war mace as a dexer weapon unless it was a really nice magic, the damage over time is just too low compared to the other mace weapons.

I agree. I like qstaves, hammer picks, war axes, and war maces. It's really depending on what your character's stats are and who you are fighting.

I hate hammer picks. Mathematically, they are one of the absolute worst weapons. I think they're the only mace weapon that rolls 3 dice though, so they can get some lucky hits here and there. Quarterstaff with 100-120 dex is borderline unfair, but I hate having to disarm for potions. For me, I almost always went with a war axe, but in some situations a war mace can be useful due to it having the highest damage of any one-handed weapon.

As an orcish macer I am not allowed to use a war axe (we call them gowlf clubz). My favorite 1-handed mace is a club. Find a might or force one with burning or lightning, they should be cheap since no one uses them. I was surprised at how good it was.
