Account taken over, no gm's to help?...

Hail friends,

I have had to post this as I have sent derrick pm's, tried to get his attention in irc, and he has not responded.

I was away for a couple days,
My account was taken over, and the password changed.
Then a bunch of stuff looted from my house, a book left "Looted by the mist"

A password can only be changed by a GM since it requires the original ip address creator to initialize the change, other than that a GM would have to change it.

Plus I have no spyware or viruses (I work IT so I wouldnt have had it keylogged)
AND my password was relatively hard to guess/crack with any password cracker.

So who exactly is to blame for this?

(note: i dont care about the stuff i lost, just i had a 7x gm mage, a 7x gm warrior and working on a 7x thief that I can presume are or will be deleted upon reading this so i no longer have any ambition to play the game)

Someone you know?

Derrick may be able to see all IPs that accessed your account and see if it matches anyone else.

Good luck!

Check your account info you are trying to log in with.

It doesn't make sense for someone to hack your account and log into it to steal everything in your house but not deed and take the house, too.

Shitty...

UOgamers has a thing that pops up every time you log on until registration of account is complete. Its annoying but when its done youre covered. If you dont and lose account info, they arent likely to help you.

Think Defiance has something like that too.

Anyway we could have something like that too, Register by email?

Aye. It's in the works. The current system authorizes changes to password based on the IP addess of the account creator, which is what happened in this case.

keeping valuables (if u can consider online items valuables) in a house/on an account where your not the only person with access is just asking for disaster. plenty of ways for you to avoid this, doesnt seem like you did any of them.

Unfortunately that is a total legit trick. Best thing you should have done is use his characters to amass wealth for yourself, but kept it separate from you.

This situation is a real nightmare, and one of our top priorities at this point is to implement a more secure method of validating account ownership.
