Write to Richard Garriott and make him work at UOSA. Imagine how cool it would be.

Although I find his new attitude a bit hard to swallow:

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/20 ... -comeback/
"If I had to pick a developer who has done a bang up job, it would be Blizzard [the development team behind World of Warcraft]. The number of people they have converted is just amazing. They have shown all of us what good game development is all about."

Designer Dragon did the real work on UO.

Also, he is right about WoW. As terrible as it is, it is well made.

You wouldn't last 10 seconds in Wow, Chumbucket. How would you loot, kill, scam and steal????

You could still scam in wow, it was just hard, you would place like 50 of some item on the ah with all at the same price except for one in the middle at an absurd price, and people would be stupid enough to click it without noticing the difference, while they bought the rest. Of course the GMs started reversing those trades :(.

didn't richard come up with the Ultima Series? even if he didn't have a lot of hands on game development for Ultima Online, i think he is definitely responsible for the thoughts/ideas behind the lore and fantasy used in UO.

Yes, the ultima series made him what he is, he cashed in and sold out at the perfect time and made a mint - but sold control away. He was the idea man, while DD and the team implemented it.

I hope he maybe takes an established book series and turns it into an MMO - like Jordans WOT, Martins Game of Thrones or the Midkemia series......all ripe for a MMO as their settings and history are 100% fleshed out with huge followings.

I think if anything he would take UO and make a whole new game out of an old classic, not based around the whinings of players who ruined alot of good game mechanics but make it really an in depth online rpg. There was so much envisioned for Ultima but it seemed to have gone downhill when the devs decided to be truer to the players then to the game. All those good ideas envisioned weren't even on the map anymore when the tweeds started seeing dollar signs in their eyes.

The world could have been richer, fuller, more in depth in the game's sense of an alter reality. Economy even affected that you COULDN'T make things like black tubs any longer. How sick is that? Instead of progressing they jumbled the whole idea of what this classic and innovative MMORPG was envisioned as originally and crumbled it all up with greedy grubby hands.

One thing UOSA is good for is finding out where things went wrong, why some things were fixed and where they shouldn't have been also...it's square one when UO was at the height of it's popularity. Sure it didn't have the graphics of the newer games...but as we all know it's appeal had nothing to do with that. Throwing in a bunch of neons, Trammel,Samaurai, etc was a poor but half-heartedly desperate attempt to retain their playerbase.

Corporate tweeds knew nothing about what kind of players were centered around this game, nor should they have had any say in how it was to develop and progress. Instead of a Dark, and Sinister battle between good and evil in a world that lived and breathed, it was turned into candyland. Let us all shake our fists at them.

I guess before we start a massive write-in campaign, we should maybe think to ask Derrick and staff if they actually WANT Garriot's help. Haven't you people ever seen "The Social Network"? Garriot will be the Justin Timberlake to Derrick's Jesse Eisenberg, and that will leave poor Nevermore/Yoda/Braden sharing Andrew Garfield's role simultaneously (a la Olsen Twins/Full House).

I don't know about you kids, but I really don't want to see the shard go down that way....

1: Yes, I know it was a movie based on RL Facebook events and people. I used the actors instead for comedic effect.
2: While I agree that Garriot was a genius, and am extremely greatful that he has helped provide us with one of the greatest games of all time and the father of all MMOs, there is absolutely no denying that the guy has a giant inflated ego and kind of exudes douchebaggery on occasion (trust me, I'm his friend on Facebook).

Well if the people who were running the free shards all collaborated in a 21st century rendition of UO using the original as a base and make an expanded world more ingenius, darker, sinister, more awe inspiring and overall epic. I don't think anyone would complain. That is why I started a thread about going the opposite way of Trammel. Some of it was humourous but in all seriousness...what if there was an Epic Ultima Online?
Instead of being player friendly something in an entirely different direction, give us all nightmares and cause us to nerdrage.
