Runebooks work from any distance?

Should runebooks auto-close like other items/containers when you get too far away? I can open a runebook and use it from any distance away as long as I don't close the gump on my screen

the runebook gump stays open, but you are not able to actually recall off the runes if you are further than 2 tiles from the book.
