I am a new player to UO Second Age at a point where I am looking for housing. Is real-estate on this server to a point where you are looking for a decayed location to place a house?

Thank you.

Hi, welcome to UOSA!

It depends on the type of house you're after. Smalls can be placed easily.
Larger house spots can be found too as houses are collapsing regularly. You probably have to buy a prime location house or a keep/castle though unless you're lucky enough to place one at an idoc.

thanks for the reply

Probably in the market for housing larger than a small.

You do state that larger housing spaces are availble, due to collapse. But it sounds like (and looks like from my very cursory tour) UOAS is pretty much populated and there isn't much point in exploring the harder or less popular areas unless you are marking housing In Danger Of Collapsing...

You also state that if you wanted a prime location for a keep/castle you would have to "buy" one. Assuming one would go through a different forum on this site to attempt the transaction?

Thanks for the welcome, it has been a long time. Forgot how very much I loved this game.

I'd like to run around the map once a week and i always notice a few spots where a 2-story or brick would fit.

These boards have a tradeforum. Check out subforum 'housing'. This would be your best bet to purchase a house.

I haven't bought or placed a house in a year or two, but what I can I can piece together from the forums and IRC is that if you want a house, you have to buy from Kryptonical. Otherwise, he will send goons over to break your arms.

If you want anything above a brick/large, you will in most if not all cases have to buy it from someone, or buy all the houses in an area where a larger house can fit. Most huge tracks of land that can fit these structures have already been taken up. Smalls are easy as pie to place even in areas near moongates/towns

Theres still plenty of spots for L-shapes and towers. If you want a keep or castle you need to either buy up some land, camp large idocs or just buy one from someone else.

honestly, I'd recommend just buying a placed larger home from another player. The price is generally quite reasonable. I bought my tower in a semi-secluded area, none too far away from Vesper, for deed+25k or something. That's like an extra 5% or something by my math. Keeps and castles are going to be worth more for sure, but towers are my fav anyway :)

Yea, buying is generally easier. I have seen though quite a few of the medium sized (ie Ls and Patios) placed recently. We had a new refresh rule go into effect, and I think a lot of the "condemned" housing is starting to go. Enough so that people are missing the IDOC stage and finding just the empty spots.
