Everyone expected a "variant" magic system, based on U8: no one had any idea (including, I think, the devs ...) what was going on when necro regs started to appear; there was a good year or so of rumour and speculation about the "forthcoming Necromancy patch".

Beyond that, mounted jousting with lances, and unhorsing your opponent.
