Managing house security, w/ storing heavy crap?

Post by Azural Kane »

I've been given a large brick to use and I'm trying to determine the best way of staying secure with storing heavy stuff ala mass piles of regs.

I have a few friends, some of them new to UO entirely, making chars and it'd be nice to be able to figure out how to store regs in the house without having gaping security issues.

I learned how to lock a key down on the steps...... but that just seems to be an invitation for one of us to forget to relock the door.

Do folks just store regs in the bank, or is there a way to get a fairly secure central base going?

Table barriers, locking the back room doors and also locking down the key to those rooms (reducing your chance of forgetting to lock your regs in by 1/2) are a couple of options I can think of off the top of my head.

As far as forgetting to lock it, make a macro. When i walk up to my door, i hit a hotkey that does: unlock, open, lock, walk 2 steps, close, detect hidden. That makes it impossible for someone to sneak into your house around you (they would be revealed), and it ensures that you always relock the door.

Then right inside the door, have your table wall. make a macro for getting thru that as well.

If you do that, then your house will always be secure.

Never include walking in your macros. It messes up Razor big time. You can still just include some pauses in there, and walk during that time.

I use a locked door and a table barrier. Macro goes like this:

Double click Keyring
Target Door
Pause 1000
Open Door
Pause 1000
Double Click Keyring
Target Door (to lock)
Close Door
Say "I wish to release this"
Target table
Pick up table
Drop table to location (next spot east)
Pause 1000
Pick up table
Drop to location (it's original spot)
Say "I wish to lock this down"
Target table
Pause 1000
Use Skill: Detect Hidden
Target Self

You can move your character in between the pauses without making the macro stop.

In a large brick, I'd make this kind of macro for the front doors, and I'd also probably lock down some keyrings to each of the back room doors. That way if someone does get in while your macro is going, and you're fumbling for the hotkey to ban them, they can't get into the back rooms where the good stuff is anyways.

Thank you kind folk, one more question, is there a maximum number of co-owners I can have on my house? (Easier for people I want to be able to access to get thru the table-barrier)

It's always best to do things manual imo. I do this...

Walk in, close door, detect hidden (via hotkey), "I wish to release this" (via hotkey), manually target blocking item, "I wish to lock this down", target blocking item again. Sometimes I'll do another detect just for the heck of it but it's unnecessary. I've been playing UO since 1997 and have never had my goods stolen. Once you know the routine, it's very easy to prevent theft.

When you lock your keyring to the door, is there something that prevents other people from using it to unlock your door?

Only owners and friends of the house can use the locked down keyring, no one else. Make a character on another account and test it out for yourself.
