Will desync ever be fixed?
This is really the only thing that is killing UOSA compared to other shards, especially for pvp.
It's such a drag to have to hit a stupid "resync" hotkey every so often, and most of our population is having this problem. Maybe even everyone?
I really hate it, why are we the only shard that has this silly issue? Surely there is some way to remedy it.
I can't even count how many times that I have been derailed/desynced off the tile I was running across to go for a killing blow but instead to find out I was 2-3 tiles off and missed him. Then they mini heal up in 2 seconds, and you know the rest.
It's frustrating, aint gonna lie because UOSA is the best shard and something as stupid as the desyncing issue has made people quit and have a bad feeling about the pvp here.
I have a feeling if we can fix this one thing PVP will be about 80% better. It's the core issue for me, it happens on mount more often but also on foot.
Such a bummer, drag or whatever you wanna call it. I was just speaking with the EX guildmaster of PoV, one of UOSA's coolest anti-pk guilds and the topic of desyncing was brought up. After speaking about it this was a reminder to me of something we desperately need to fix! He isn't playing here anymore, he just refreshes his homes for now and is pvping on another server that doesn't have this issue.
There isn't a single other server that has this issue, what are we doing wrong here? Maybe something in the code is overlooked, perhaps a funky variable or bad line somewhere? I am no programming expert and especially with RUNUO stuff or whatever.
Can anyone offer some insight?

Re: Will desync ever be fixed?
i dont think anybody has quit because of the desync problems. yea it happens alot more here than other shards and its annoying, but i doubt it irritates people that much.

I played two other servers, about two years each, and I don't think I desync more here than the others. I figured it was just a bug with runuo.

Re: Will desync ever be fixed?
Ive yet to play another free shard. I find the desyncs very frustrating, but I heard it has something to do with runuo. I get them very often, most commonly at 1v1 tourney arena.
I doubt anyone quit simply b/c of desync, way to go for the grandiose retard tone Psilo.

It sucks, but once I set my resync hotkey to mouse wheel down it wasn't as bad.

Take you and your negativity to the trash talk forum please.I doubt anyone quit simply b/c of desync, way to go for the grandiose retard tone Psilo.
I know many people who were pvpers and quit to go play other servers because those servers don't have this problem. I just spoke to a guy today and that was what motivated me to create this post. He only came back to refresh his house and that made me sad.
I have played plenty of player-run servers and this is the ONLY one that has this problem.
Do you pvp? It's mot noticeable in pvp because that's where desync will screw you over.I played two other servers, about two years each, and I don't think I desync more here than the others. I figured it was just a bug with runuo.
Well, some people have desync worse than others is what I've realized. Bottom line is it needs to be fixed, I hope we can remedy this in the near future.yea it happens alot more here than other shards and its annoying, but i doubt it irritates people that much.

Re: Will desync ever be fixed?
Of course I PVP. I played for a looong time on two servers that the runuo team ran. The people that made runuo. And I desynch just as much on those servers as I do here. As well as Metro, back in the day, where I played for about two years.
Your claim that this is the only server it happens on is insane.
After a quick search on the runuo forums:

problems with razor
i have clear target queue and resync client as hotkeys on my mouse(so i use them alot)
..........
i always seem to be out of sync these days and i use the resync hotkey like every minute.
There were others. So, if runuo can't keep their own servers clean, I'm sure it's a problem on all other servers as well.In a fight that lasts 1-2 minutes I desync at least twice.
Usually Ill just target myself with a mini heal to resync, or if that doesnt work, teleport always does.

Re: Will desync ever be fixed?
I desync now and then and all I do is PvM and use my mules. It does seem like it happens here more than other shards I've played on. I mean I've never felt the need to set a resync hotkey on other shards but on this one I'm just gonna have to do it.
Not really a deal breaker for me at this point. There's way more positive to out weigh this negative.

Re: Will desync ever be fixed?
Considering that the RunUO forums have posts all the way back to 2008 complaining about desync issues, I think its reasonable to conclude that this is not a problem with UOSA but a problem with RunUO itself. If someone quits UOSA due to desync they're just going to find the same issue on other shards regardless.

Re: Will desync ever be fixed?
It surely has something to do with network issues, but idk if there are devs still working on RunUO ? I'm not sure that waiting for a fix from them is a wise course of action
I am a software developer myself and have "worked" on UOX shards as a dev back when i was a student, i can tell you fixing desynch issues is almost never a simple fix. In this case you have to check the runUO core walking packet handling, and eventually the anticheat handling (if there is any) for bugs that cause the desynch, by testing it with people with different connections.

Re: Will desync ever be fixed?
I do not believe that the problem of Desync is a phenomenon that is any way unique to Second Age from a standpoint of code. I have scoured and combed the network code many times in the past for something that would stick as a potential cause for this, outside of the base RunUO code; or to find some simple fix for it, and have come up empty handed.
From player to player however, this problem could certainly come up more often on one shard that another, as desync is directly linked to packet loss, and connectivity for different locations is going to be better or worse from different areas.
9+ times out of 10, desync problem are fixed when "Use CPU Reduction" is disabled in Razor, or the bandwidth in the house is freed up. If a player is downloading or seeding via BitTorrent or a neighbor is watching netflix on his wifi this will cause desyncs if the incoming or outgoing bandwidth in gobbled up. Generally, wireless does not work well with UO.
For those that the above does not apply to, it's more likely a issue with the route between the clients location and the server, and sadly, other shards may have other routes from that client that do not have the same problems.
In any case, I am a little behind on the latest core upgrades from the RunUO team (yes, RunUO is very much in active development) there are some exceptional upgrades to the network code in the latest publishes which I am going to focus on merging into Second Age. I started on that this morning after noticing this post last night. I'm not through it all, and although sincerely doubt he'd ever see this thread, thanks much to Mark of RunUO for what looks like some great network code updates. I don't think there is much aimed at this problem though, I can't see a clear way to fix it, it's been a problem for a long time, and the RunUO team has much more experience and competence than I do in the UO client-server network code.

Re: Will desync ever be fixed?
A good point; on all the other shards I was using ethernet to DSL or cable.... now I'm on wifi to DSL. I do drop a lot of packets and get a ton of CRC errors with my current wifi setup.
Re: Will desync ever be fixed?
I've been having a ton of problems as of late too, will try to direct line it, instead of WiFi.

Thanks, keep us updated. If any change you make seems to help, please post. I would love to find something that i can do on this side to alievate some of this, and won't stop looking and thinking about it.
This merge is going to be pretty big; I'm only through about 10% of it after working on it all morning. This will likely be our next publish. I'll try to wrap up as much of the issues that have been idling in bug reports as is possible in this as well though.
