Not sure where to put this. Stealing advice?

I just recently started a thief: Usually i've played dexxers maces or once a tamer. (That i loved.) So I decided to see how the other side lives.

I got my hiding/snooping/stealth at GM but i'm having some difficulty working my stealing past 50. I've looked up some info on it and I can understand that steal weight = 1/10 skill. (So Ideally I should be stealing 5 stone items.) What I can't understand is where to steal from.

I Read somewhere I should steal bottles from a pack horse. But whenever I try this it tells me "You catch yourself red handed." Is it because i'm unguilded?

Is there another way I should be going about this?

Any advice is monsterously appreciated. Thank you in advance. : )

Steal either from a guildmate or a packhorse owned by someone else.

Also, read the stealing entry on the wiki.

Also, steal from Hemperor.

Ahhh! Okay thanks!
My friend was trying to convince me I could continuously macro stealing. But I didn't see how that was possible (considering I can't put items BACK into a pack animal that isn't mine.)

That can be solved too. Simply have the owner of the horse macro that part. Macro stealing and then dump the item in a bag (use the organizer agent). Then your partner macros getting items out of that bag (the restock agent) and dumping them on the horsie

The change to stealing that disallowed stealing from a pack horse is something that will be removed in the near future. Stealing off pack horses whs the only way to effectively "work" stealing on OSI. Otherwise, thieves would have had to create complex systems with second accounts, friends, or simply just run an extremely high risk of only working the skill once every two minutes. Obvously this is not how it was done, and pack horse training was the provided solution.

Oooh you're so clever.
I ended up just getting my friend to make me a friend of the horse so i was acting like an owner and macroing a move of all my stuff back into the horse once I had it.

if you are using two clients to macro stealing, why not just steal off another player and dump objects on the floor. (empty bottles is what i used) and then have scavenger to pick up bottles off the ground.
if the thief is friended and the other player is not he will be grey to you inside the house. been guild mates may also allow you to do this. before you are even qualify for the thieves guild.

I am currently leveling stealing by having 2 guilded thieves continuously steal from each other. Supplied each with about 250 bottles and 200 lock picks each and they just random steal back and forth.

its funny that one is gaining skill and dex faster than the other one. But both are in the high 90s ATM.
