maybe some monsters should have backpacks?

If I am not mistaken, possibly, some monsters should carry backpacks. I remember looting orcs in particular, and they always had a backpack with random garbage in it. There was also a neat little trick, (that I dont know if is in era) where you would kill a monster that has existed for a long time, and it would have more loot than normal. People used to keep orcs in their houses for long periods of time because of this.

Lootpacks were on almost all creatures and wasn't removed until early '00.

Aye. I've been going through some of this stuff over the past week, mostly focusing on NPC clothing, but yes humans had these nested backpacks too.

The only creatures I remember having more loot on them were the ones that could loot corpses. If it looted monster/player corpses and someone killed it, It was like finding a small treasure lol.

This wouldn't actualy go on UOSA of course, the loots were heavily revised, this is from data which is belived to be from Alpha, when the "Birds Eye" spell stilll existed.

I think they simply fixed the recursive nature of the loot packs, which was probably unintentional. I think it's correct that the bags were dropped within the backpack well into T2A, but it did stop at some point. In looting lich's I recall grabbing single backpacks and gold + any items the lich actually had equiped (such as a gnarled staff) from their corpse, but i don't remember when that changed. There is a patch note from '98 which states that creatures will have more gold and less garbage in their packs, but there was still a lot more garbage than we have on UOSA currently.

Derrick, the lootpacks more than likely persisted with the demo versions... However, the change you are referring to sounds more like a fix for the aggrivating nested packs that exists in the demo. Creatures will sometimes have several, sometimes up to 5-6 lootpacks, nested with in its main pack. The items that existed outside the pack were equipped items such as a lich's gnarled staff and the other items such as gold, random packs, etc... were looted from other monsters or players.

It's conforting to see that there were very few changes (2 officially) to get to our timeframe. We might be able to coax some accuracty out of this yet. Thanks.
